just about where I want to be

Have you ever had writer's block? I'm sure most, if not all of you have. It's like trying to scale a wall of ice using notihng but bare hands and feet. Usually if something good happens in a poet's life, he or she can write the most wonderful poems or short stories. But no matter what I go through; marriage, 4 kids, life in Colorado, or life in Chicago, family areguments, love, hate, anger...nothing comes to mind. I guess you could say it happes to everyone, and you are probably right. Sometimes I go back and read some of my old poems, nad I think to myself, "Who is the girl that wrote these poems? Where did she go?" I find it terribly annoying that I have had writer's block for four years now. I tried dabbling in a short story, but I just did not know where to go with it. Then one day in the midst of your complaining, a friend issues to you a challenge. To you, it is a pair of scaling boots. You finish the challenge and come to find out that you are one- quarter farther up the wall than when you started. This gets your adrenaline pumping ad you write a poem about your experience. It's like finding a pair of picks in the wall. This helps you get a little bit further up the wall. Then you realize your writer's block isn't so errible or annoying after all. So then you start writing about how great it feels to be writing about anything at all. This helps you scale the rest of the wall. And as you feel the ice melt away, you wonder what it was that made you think you had writer's block in the first place.
