Listening to every heart

0 posted 2005-06-08 03:51 PM

Someone, a female, was beside me as we walked toward a special event.  Unsure as to what the event was about, I noted that both of us were dressed very "nice".  I had a difficult time discerning who was beside me - she seemed familiar, but not a mother figure to me - nor a person I worked with.  But I knew her.  She seemed to be the opposite of me - a bit on the negative side, although I remember enjoying her smile, although she didn't display it too much.  She seemed introspective, quiet, painfully shy.  I remember thinking that I wanted to get to know her better, and it became a need to know who she was.

We entered a large room - within a wonderful candlelight glow, but it was not overly warm.  The room was huge, and "old world" antiques seemed to be displayed in a quiet, sensible, common way, "as it should be". I remember sensing a vast, expansive area, able to move around without feeling closed in.  Then I realized we were at a high-society function, and we were to join everyone for dinner.

The person with me felt uncomfortable.  She seemed to indicate to me that we were not to "be there"; I remember looking around, sensing it was ok, this once, to be in this space, in this time, even if we weren't supposed to be in attendance.  My companion reluctantly seemed to give in and accept our situation, then sat on my left side at table.

On my right was a very good looking man who seemed to be in his 50's, but his wonderfully engaging smile made him seem youthfully ageless - not a boy - most certainly a man, who seemed to be extremely pleased over something only he knew.  He exuded a warm friendliness and I was drawn to his mannerisms and demeanor.

Dinner seemed to be over "after a time". It was a meal such as I have never experienced before.  Everything had passed by exquisitely, I was "full" but not uncomfortable and I seemed to be able to acknowledge that I had a good taste in my mouth.  My friend to my left had eaten as well, and seemed a little more comfortable in her surroundings.

It was at this point that the gentleman on my right took the attention of the entire room.  What I had at once thought was an "intimate" meal of only a few people took on the grand proportions of a huge ballroom, and this man was suddenly center stage with appropriate lighting.  His voice never raised more than as if in a conversation, but everyone was listening to him make a presentation.  Underneath a small cloth, he was holding something small, and was saying that this evening was a very special time, an event of some proportion.  I wondered what the occasion was when he lifted the small cloth off and presented me with an antique book.

The cover of the book was golden, brown and green, a carving or engraving, it seemed, of an old oak tree in full summer bloom, and the engraving took over the entire cover of the book.  The book was thick, but not heavy.

I looked at the man who was smiling with some inner amusement.

"Go ahead, open the cover."

I looked down again at the cover, but it had changed.  The huge, golden green oak tree was now set back on the cover, and a meadow seemed to appear in the forefront.  I could see fences, but then as I continued to look at it, the scene seemed to continue moving, and changing.  It was a beautiful landscape of meadows and lush promise.

As I opened the book I was surprised to see my own novel inside.  "They" [in the dream, I even assumed 'they' to be the publishers] had managed to get just the right cover on my own book - only they had made it look like an antique cover.

The man continued smiling, and I remember starting to ask him questions about how he got the book.

"I had my ways.  I have been waiting for it to come out."

"But, why wasn't I notified?"

"This is it," he said.  "This is your notification."

Oooh..I have been pondering on this for some time.
Do you still recall his voice?
(tell me was it soothing like Cary Grant?)
This is all going to come back to you
as I said before..

somewhere in time.

Well written dear lady.

The controlled, mellow, soothing voice was moderate in tone - like dark honey.  But to put a true "sounds like" behind it - I haven't yet been able to do that, Nancy Lee.

But it seems since the time of the dream, if I am in an agitated state, all I have to do is think back on it and I become very calm.

Did the spirits leave me with my very own "meditation" dream?

Sunshine,

I am glad to see this posted.  I've given it more thought. The gentleman seems very spiritual to me.

My oldest sister had a dream that was very different, but in a sense it reminds me of her dream.  In her dream, the aged male figure spoke in affirming monologue that everything would be all right.  He was quite tall with a very long, pure white beard and extraordinary long fingers.  I can almost imagine him motioning with his fingers to come closer to hear a secret. He spoke few words, but the ones he spoke have given her strength through major trials of life.

I seldom underestimate the message in a dream.  I believe He plants these in us sometimes.  (There are at least two times in my own life that I believe He planted the dream to prepare me.)

Thanks again for sharing your lovely dream.

Cathy, I have received, gratefully, several interpretations.  All of which seem to make sense. Of course, I am one that is "open" to various reactions, so I appreciate all of the quiet, and public comments that I may receive. That it was a personal dream, one that I was at first hesitant to tell anyone about, weighed heavy on me. But when I came to the man in the dream, it seemed, in a way, that I should, indeed, be sharing this with those who I knew also believed in their own personal dreams - and not those of day dreams, or desires, but the intensely personal dreams that come to us through our subconcious.

There was one particular respondent, however, that made me realize that this was a dream to be shared. Those who would pick up on it - fine.  And those who did not?  That was ok, too. As if this were an affirmation of "do you trust?" and Yes, I do.

So, here it is.  So far, no one has come to me with those silly white jackets.

Dreams of a very special nature such as this do indeed come to help calm one. I had one not similar but as intense. I woke up crying, but ever after I had a better understanding of some relationship problems in my life at that time. Take what you can from it. And Congratulations on the book, I did not know you were writing one, nor that it was so close to publication. best martyjo

MartyJo...

Thank you so very much.  Dreams can be so very, very intense.  Yes, I have written a book, and it should be out by mid-fall, but definitely before Christmas.  It started from a prose piece, right here, in Passions.  I think I had added about 20 chapeters before some very wise members said, "get it OFF the internet..." and I trusted them fully, and asked the Wiz to please "POOF" all of the entries.

It was a LOT of writing, and our own Wiz did just that. [To this day, his reaction time was that of more than "SOON", and I remain truly grateful.]

What was more than wonderful was the continued e-mails I received on the storyline itself.  It kept me wanting to pull out the fiction - not for myself, but for everyone else.  By private e-mail, I continued to send it on to some of those who kept it alive here, in Prose.

And then it took on a life of its own and sometimes I couldn't even believe what had come forth.  It was remarkable, that I could just lose time and still be fully conscious.  I had lost time before during an illness, and it is NOT the same.

So, this is a long way of going about my thanks, to you, for reading this...I do so appreciate each and every time I know someone has read anything I put here in Ron's home...

but more than that?

The e-mails received that tell me even more.

Thank you, Martyjo.

From time to time, I brave the sun
Brave the crowds of many more than one,
Enter into events meant to praise
Where in cheer a glass is raised
And it remains foggy when it’s done.
Yet it would to me seem
That bound within this dream
Is a bit of fantasy
About a reality
That is about to come.

Lee - I so appreciate the link, thank you.

Liz...LOL...you tease...it's coming along fine, thank you, and should be out this fall. [Do you remember anything about PiP's books coming out...how LONG it seemed to take?  Well, thank Goodness I am only having to answer to myself, and my own decisions on how to operate this publication...I would have hated to have been in Ron's shoes months ago!]

And, LIZ, just in case you are still reading? I am working on the sequel. In fact, I've been working on it all day today, and it's been quite a few weeks since I have had the time to put into it. I'll tell you, it's like holding your baby in your arms again, after a two week vacation. Even thought it's been longer than that since I've devoted this much time to it, any mother, and maybe any father, should be able to understand how that feels....

and it feels good to embrace the muse again!

Thank you, m'dear, for reading.  And thank you, Lee, for the link!

If I go back and edit, will anyone notice?

Sorry....ERICA!!!

For some reason, "Elizabeth" is on my mind.  My grandmother, Elizabeth, passed away this last Thanksgiving. You think she's trying to contact me through this dream?  Hmmmm?

You think that's it?

I agree with Gloom :
That bound within this dream
Is a bit of fantasy

And I have these dreams occasionally but never about anything so wonderful...

I wonder if the other woman is your inner self, uncomfortable about not able to have a job where she "belongs?"
The "man" could be a potential employer you recently encountered?
I think the "book" involved is your sequel?
And perhaps the "Why wasn't I notified" question a connection to recent employment?  Just puzzling?  KJ

Sunshine... With my uneducated mind I would interpret your dream as a visit from a departed family member maybe your father  and he was showing you off to all of his friends and telling you and them how proud he is of you for writing your book. You couldn't reconize his face because in most dreams we feel a connection with people in our dreams but never get to see their faces because they have changed.
The lady in your book may represent a teacher that opened your eyes to the world of writing and she was there to celebrate your acomplishment with the book.

The oak tree on the cover of your book might represent the deep roots and love you have for your father and the meadow may represent the peacefulness and serenity he now has in the after world.

A thought just hit me that you are dedicating your book to your father. Maybe I am wrong, but I can't describe the feeling that I just felt while reading over my reply.

Anyway I really enjoyed your dream...Paul

Ken, Martie, Paul,

I had occasion to look this poem up to send it to a friend, and look what I found...

Thank you all for taking a moment to peek into this dream. Over the last few years, it has not only helped me, but others, as well.

It's good to record dreams...you never know when you might need to fall back on them.
