just about where I want to be

This is the sequel to this post..took a while!

Eden stood at the window looking toward the beach. She thought about her mother. She remembered when her dad told her about the time he had met her in college. She remembered the way dad looked at mom's picture sitting on his nightstand with soft adoration. She missed them both. After mom died, dad just kind of lost all interest in living. He died last year.

She remembered all of her tea parties when mom would come in and drink tea and they would talk about their days and how much fun they were having. Mom would pick up a teddy bear and ask it if it wanted another cookie. She loved those days spent in the playroom.

On the days she was in school, mom would come in and bring her lunch with her, and they would sit and eat while watching the other kids play. During class, mom would sit behind her and help her with her math homework, and make fun of the teacher. BUt the teacher never caught them.

As she stood by this window, she saw something out of the corner of her eye. She went outside and walked down to the beach. In the sand was a bottle. Inside was a note. She opened it and read:

“My dear Eden,

If you've found this letter, then God has truly smiled on me. My beautiful baby, I know it will be hard for you to grow up not knowing your mother, but know this..I will forever be with you. In your heart and watching you from heaven. Listen to the stories your father will tell you and imagine I am there laughing with you. Ask your questions and listen to the answers. Grow up free and love life. Live it to the fullest. Don’t let anything stand in your way. God has an exciting life planned for you, I’ve seen that since the day you were born. I love you my baby girl, and I always will. Remember what I have told you. It’s time for me to go now.

Love,

Mommy

Eden wiped the tears from her eyes. She looked up to the sky as the sun shone from behind a cloud. She did listen to the stories and did ask questions. Her mommy was there as she grew up. Knowing that helped her get through her daddy’s death. She watched the waves rolling in from the sea, and took her mother’s picture from her pocket. She put it in the bottle with the letter, put the top on it and threw it back in the water. Then...she started laughing.

I enjoyed this very much. I had never read part1, but went back and read it before reading part 2. I can tell why it is such a popular piece for you. I lost my best friend a few years ago and I too feel like she is always with me, watching over me.

Thanks Dawn..I actually wrote this for my daughter Eden..I am planning on making basically a story for her throughout her life, and giving it to her when she leaves home...*sniff* I don't really want to think about it...but it will happen in about 14 years or so...*sniff*
