There’s a stigma that follows you when you live here – the less fortunate –in politically  correct language. People kind of look at you with a polite ‘oh’ when you tell them where you live.

The truth is we can’t wait to get out and move on, but what people don’t know is that we’re not less fortunate really. Sure we drive an old car – but we don’t have payments like the majority of the population. It gets us from A to B and even C when John feels so inclined.  “Just one more stop” is his habitual saying.

Grandma told me this would be the absolute best time of my life.  With two babies and bills up to our ears, her words are impossible to imagine as true.

* * * *

Turned out Grandma was right.  We were perpetually in overdraft and we argued about bills and overspending. We worried about college fees, and groceries and about our future. But we were in love with each other and the kids. The simple fact is that we were rich because we were happy.

Grandma passed on a couple years ago, and John unexpectedly after that.  The kids and I cried in each others arms when we got the call.

It’s kind of strange how life can just move on.  The bills still come as if you really cared to pay them; the sun still comes up when all you want to do is sleep in the darkness.

I still drive an old car; not because I have to but because I want to remember life isn’t about stuff; rather its about going from A to B and then on to C.

Hey Copperbell, I truly adore this story, not enough people realize this, the simpleness of A to B and C . .  you wrote that beautifully.  This really tightened my chest, you certainly have the story there.

I thought you were talking about Buffalo here LOL:

I get that whenever I go anyplace BUT Buffalo . . .
