Time here is so abstract!  If one was to travel to different rooms in my home, it would be like traveling in different time zones, but in reverse, from west to east.   The sun sets can be viewed from our bedroom window.  There, it is fifteen minutes earlier than the clock in the kitchen that faces the sunrise.  The kitchen clock is intentionally set fifteen minutes earlier than the Steamboat Mickey on the piano that rests beside the metronome. All, devious strategies to fool us into thinking we're in control of movement!  I just hope Mickey's ship doesn't get caught up in the whirlpool!

In  daily routine, we thrust ourselves from one room to another, in watch of the clock, adding and deducting minutes to figure out the “real” time!  After all, one can’t be tardy for fear of losing the last breadcrumb of a day’s opportunity.  Or can he?

Did I mention the discrepancy between the time on the cell phone and that in the right hand corner of the computer screen?  Add/deduct; add/deduct wherever we go.  (It’s sort of like a checking account in that manner, always waiting for the next payday!  Unlike checks and tender, minutes are non-negotiable!)

Then, there is the race against the clock and odometer, with the driver knowing that from mile marker #41 he should safely land at the place of employment in fourteen more minutes. Sixteen minutes would make him late according to the analog type in the office, but two minutes early according to the digital around the corner.(It happens to be set according Greenwich Time and the DJ on the radio!)  I, being the good ole, slow moving, take-your-time type of person, do not fit well into the quartz crystal, but at the same instance, feel the surging pressure that surrounds me.

I’ve come to a place in my life where I mark the measures of my musical expression with a metronome.I find it necessary to challenge my fingers to approach a faster pace than they would opt to take otherwise.  Still, in doing so, dynamics are lost and expression poor.  However, it helps get the job done in a speedy manner.

Of all the counting mechanisms in my home, my favorite is our grandfather clock who sits stately in the living room.  He isn’t the swinger he used to be, or does he rush to make an impression with his ringing echoes and melodic chiming.   His pendulum rests in total balance and silence.  If the shortest distance between two points is a line, then give me only one point so that I can remain stationary like his pendulum.  May the rising sun be the single point reflected in Grandfather's pendulum, reminding us of why and how the calendar truly came to be.

Cathy,
Yup you put a smile on my face. Felt like I paid my son a visit! Familiar territory. Still not persuaded that deception is that effective a tool. But being on time may be worth whatever it takes. Fun write. And if Grandfathers are always right, well...

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Thanks, Jo.  I completely left out that "verbal time" is different depending upon the responder's mood and need!  "Honey, what time is it?"  Gee, all this thought about time when I don't even have to get up in the morning!!!  I still feel rushed!  Suppose I have a little bit of my Daddy in me!

Do you think I ought to set the clocks right when Daylight Savings Time comes around??? Teeheeheehee!

          luv ya, Big Sis

Larry,
Glad this put a smile on your face.  OH,
Your son lives in such a time-distorted place?  I hope you're able to take him away from clocks sometime, or let him read this and tell him, "It will eventually drive you bonkers like it did this nice lady!" Then, you two can make it a point to set the clocks straight!  You're right, it is deceptive and worsens the situation (other than improving one's ability to calculate negative and positive numbers!)
Thanks for stopping by.  It's always great to see you again.  Have a good week and "weekend".  Yes!  It's almost here!!!!

Hey miscellanea! LOVE THIS! It is also why I never wear a watch! I will not bend knee to time. LOL! (EVER!)

Remember, if you're not part of the future, you're history!

EV2,
Glad to see you again.  I don't wear a watch either (well, most times).  Power to you!   Thanks for stopping in.  Glad you can relate to this piece.

Cathy,
I don't wear a watch and I have one clock in my house. I think that it's a reverse echo of when I was married and we had no less than four clocks in the lounge all set at different times all chiming my life away. I liked the sense of urgency in this write and the feeling of everything fleeting or perhaps fleeing. Good job.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown
