It wasn't long before I learned more words from the old language.  I live in Attrendia, the nation that has severed all ties with its native language.  I have never met a speaker of Attrendian, though I'm told that there are some scattered here and there.  It's a dead and forgotten language that only a handful of scholars bother to learn.

Nevertheless I met regularly with Cuteto in that same abandoned alleyway where I first encountered him and we discussed the language.  He could speak it fluently.  He told me that Cuteto meant "teacher."

But I think I need to get to the point.  I just wrote that the only person I trust with my secrets is Cuteto.  I trust him because he understands me more than anyone else.  He was the first and only person not to question my sanity after I mentioned my nightly experiences.  You need to see those things.  There's a reason you're seeing them and experiencing them.  You remember what most people don't want to.

I could never quite understand why he said this.  However, when I saw the burning children and the white hot cups and the devoured, rotten flesh as memories I could cope with them better.  They happened in the past, but I was okay in the present.
