Assignments From My Daughter #21
By Larry Chadwick

L.L. Bean wasn’t really her style. But then again that hat. She had to have that hat. It would work so perfect with her classroom. So she sat down at her computer and proceeded to write a whole sequence of topic titles. Relying on her kindergarten experience she got her scissors out and separated each title into a single paper strip. When they were folded in half they went into her hat. And the hat went to her high school English classroom. It would do her juniors and seniors good to write impromptu papers on random topics.

Assignment #21 “I Don’t Want To Be Rich”:

I have watched the poor get rich. I have watched the rich get richer. I have watched the rich get famous. I have watched the rich get haughty. And I have watched them all flaunt their ability to live large. It is fascinating that gaudy is typically a style selected for flaunting wealth as if that were its only redeeming value. Interesting that the poor can be indebted to the rich without borrowing anything.

That money cannot buy love is taken for granted by the poor. And they assume it cannot buy happiness either. But then again with all the television shows that voyeur the lives of the rich and famous there is little evidence to refute the assumptions. That is why I do not play the lottery because I don’t want to be rich.

Hello Larry,
"I Don't Want To Be Rich.",
but I'd sure love to try it! :-)
One of my favorite parts,
"Interesting that the poor can be indebted to the rich without borrowing anything."
very nice!
Funny as a child I always felt we were rich. Funny how you say I do not play the lottery because I don't want to be rich...and I say I do not play the lottery because I don't want to be poor! :-)
To me the key...is the meaning of Rich! Thanks again for sharing and doing your assignments. :-)

pictureme,
Isn't it great, you don't have to be rich to be rich! Me too. It's the best. And thank you.

Dad was the one that went to work, mum stayed home... he would work the three shifts, and he would work hard just so that he could feed and clothe his wife and 3 children...we were fed, we were clothed, there was heating in the winter, blankets on our beds and hot water for our baths...and there was love...and...that's all that was needed.

I can still smell that kerosene heater and the way it's mesh dome glowed.

Thank you Larry.

Maree,
Wealth is certainly not the norm. Good thing it isn't a necessity of life! Thank you for sharing part of your story.
