Morning glories sprawled haphazardly over the stone walkway, trailing behind the unkempt nasturtiums that covered the steps, now the sole proprietors of the entryway.

It had been more than a year since anyone had dared venture this close to your hideaway. I felt the chill, the staleness of the air that was surrounded by the reclusive stonewalls that enclosed this small paradise from the outside world. The dampness had already settled into my bones, making it difficult to push open the heavy broken-hinged door you always pushed open so easily.

My footsteps echoed loudly in the silence of the empty room, the room where we had spent so many hours laughing and sharing cups of hot coffee with warm biscuits after long walks in the woods. The room was empty now. Your sister had disposed of the old beanbag chair and spool table, the broken lamp you said would go wherever you went, the ancient tattered Persian rug with a hunting scene you bought at an auction. Gone were the paintings and sketches, the easel, the paints and brushes you held lovingly as you deftly covered the bare canvas with splashes of life most of us never see.

I could not bare to walk into the bedroom. Turning back to go outside, I noticed a small overturned canvas underneath the fireplace mantle. Curiosity demanded I turn it over. My eyes widened when I felt the wet paint give underneath my fingertip pressure. How could this be? How could the paints hold so much resilience after all this time?

To be continued….

I had a dream last night

I flew away with you in painted sky
Was it real

No, Kacy.  It's a very compelling movie with the lead played by Robin Williams.  Rent it - you'll like it.  This truly reminded me of parts of that movie.  I think you would find it quite fascinating.
