I live within myself

I’m back.  Let’s dance again.
Let’s dance around the graves of those that sin.  Let’s dance and clap hands.  Let’s hold hands like we don’t see our differences.  Let’s pretend again.  Let’s pretend you don’t look down on me.  I’m not poor and you’re not pretty.  She’s not stupid and we’re all just as great as the next person.  Who are you kidding?  Dance with me.  Forget what I just said.  Smile pretty.  Keep smiling.  It will make the mind shutup eventually.  Happy children.  They’re all so happy.  Except maybe that kid.. you know.. the one who.. in the garage.  But, we don’t talk about him or them or the kids who don’t smile pretty.  Take the quilt and add your piece.  We’re a united circus of actors and amateurs and jugglers and amazing acts.  Everyone is amazing.  We’re all the same.  And we all laugh the same and walk the same and turn our heads the other way the same.  It’s the same with you as it is with me.  We refuse to see.  We refuse to see anything that may mar our smile.  We refuse to look in any mirror that may reflect back at us.  Reflections are an illusion.  Don’t bother trying to discern.  It’s all just fantasy.  Unlike this world we live in.  Where we dance and sing and smile pretty.

A good cynical piece.  I'm trying to decide if this is a criticism of Canadian/American society today or some other group of people you may know of.

In any case, the piece has a swift-flowing colloquial tone that makes the biting satire even more effective.  Thanks for sharing.  This one's going into my library.
