He sits in the back of the church, as the pastor preaches about the nobiility of the father, a tinge of pain ripples through his chest. He clenches his jaw as the pastor continues on about the prodigal son and how the father accepted the son after the son foolishly wasted his inheritance like a profligate, and he wondered how it was possible that a father could be so forgiving. The pastor says, "God bless, Fathers." and service is at an end. Slowly he walks to the altar, with each step a peice of the concrete sphere he's encased his pain in chips away landing to the ground with a crash. Heads turn but no one moves as he gets down on his knees and rests his face against the altar, tears well up in his eyes as he clenches his fist and grits his tear.. holding back the floods of emotion that have built up over years. At first a lone tear escapes his grip then another and another now tears are streaming down his face which he has covered with his face to keep people from seeing his grimacing pain. A familiar voice cracks behind him and a quivering hand is placed on his back, a soft prayer is uttered on his behalf and the shaken man walks away to leave him alone again. He regains his composure wipes his puffy eyes and stands turning to walk out of the sanctuary when a commanding voice called out, "Steven... Come here" He turned to see his pastor with his arms open wide and tears accompanying his soft demeanor, a rare occurence for a man who is usually joyful and/or hard when necessary. The young man reluctantly walked to the pastor and the young man broke down, he couldn't his body quivered as his mind swarmed with the agony his "noble" father had caused him in his absence. On that day, God became his Father truly and honestly, not just in name and title.
