Challenge From a Teacher
Larry's challenge assignment choice from Ginger's classroom.
/pip/Forum7/HTML/000552.html

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
from Websters Dictionary:
Star:
1 a : a natural luminous body visible in the sky especially at night
b : a self-luminous gaseous celestial body whose shape is usually spheroidal,
2 a  : a planet or a configuration of the planets that is held in astrology to influence one's destiny or fortune
3 a : a conventional figure with five or more points that represents a star;
4a : of, relating to, or being a star < received star billing  >
b : of outstanding excellence
~~~~~~~~~~

~Starshine~

     "If I Could Meet A Star" is the question of poetic ponderance ... so as I wonder this query ... still another question comes to mind. Why do we call someone a star? What is it that they do that earns them this ethereal honor? After all, stars are born to the sky, they belong to the clouds and possess celestial heights that no mortal can ever truly touch. So why do we give a title such as this to a human? Do some shine brighter than others? Yes, of course, we have followed many a great man's/woman's beacon. Some of these people are gifted of voice, of hand, of mind and vision to see clarity with a radiant rarity.

     So I then wonder, would I feel the same awe when looking at one of them as I do when I stand beneath a star stained sky on a clear night? Would their light offer me the same inspire and inner contentment? Would I learn of constance and commitment, of things unchanged and uncharted? Could they tell me the secrets of midnight and keep their promise to the moon? Seems like a lot of expectation to put on a mere mortals shoulders.

     Still, we have known those who were worthy of such a title. Those exceptions to the rule ... those who just do seem to shine a little brighter ... stand out above the crowd. And it wasn't for their facial attributes, it didn't matter if they had perfect teeth nor classic cheekbones. They became celebrity for their passion, for their vision of things to come, and their determination and often times self sacrifice to see their goal through to completion, not for money, nor fame, but for the purpose of making things more fair or safer for the next one to walk in their footsteps.

     We recently, tearfully watched as 7 stars fell from the sky and many of us didn't know their names or faces. We knew them as the men and women of NASA.
Sadly many only reach celebrity after the fall. The star of a hero shines brighter in our eyes. One tragically dark day on a September gone, many stars were given back to the sky. The true definition of a hero doesn't always mean they asked for the title.
Does anyone ever actually apply for the position of an angel?
To me, they are one in the same, and all belong to the sky.

     I think I'll wish on one from here ... perhaps I'll wish to see my next shooting star over the ocean, where the blues of the tides and the sky become one. Now, come to think of it ... I wouldn't mind having Mother Nature's autograph.

JM

JM,
Well now, as stars go I see qualities that I hadn't considered before. Not surprising many of them are reflected in you dearest friend. A tender contemplative write. You know how to make me think ever deeper. And thank you for honoring me with a response to this challenge.

I'm sure she'd have given you and A+!

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Janet Marie...There are stars on earth...like angels, they have more light, and some are fortunate enough to recognize them...I see one in you, dear friend.  Loved this!

JM,
You were as clear as one can see. But it is what one cannot see that intrigues me.
Within the sum of the common is the uncommon. The repition of strange within the very sense of change. The large and the small and the sense of it all. You have to travel infinity to even get close to the vicinity. And this in our present form is impossible. So within the limites of our cry you sing a wonderous lullaby. And this my dear is to me the salve of my why.
WWRS
PS. An excellent write.

I'd have to agree - getting Mother Nature's autograph - and that of her Queen Moth - would be a spectacular accomplishment...

you did well, little one - very, very well...

and I know someone with a stick that will set this on the fire, just to see the sparks ascend to meet this beauty....

My, my, my...yes, it has been my honor to know of one, and seen the growth spill outward through the blackness of night to burst out with the breathtaking awe of the multa sparkling sky over the soft boom of waves and become one with them. A gentle smile to you for the depths from which you bring forth and grace us with....yes, I know of one who carries the gentle beat of wing..Well done, my dear friend, well done...very gentle smile

You know this made me realize just how very lucky I really was.  You see I had picked this special star that I designated "her" star, and to me she always was a star here on earth in her art, so I figured she would be a special start up there too .  The stars I know in heaven are much brighter than any here on earth that is for sure.  You sure met Larry's challenge with heart Mz. The facets of you are ever changing like the twinkling of a star, like the flow of this piece moving from  nexus to nadir. However, one thing is always constant and that's your brilliance. Wonderful write.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

Probably not. But I sure love what you extract from the sky. Thanks for letting me reminisce.

If I could meet a star,
I would choose to not;
For as a physicist,
I know they are quite hot.
