Where Have All The Jobs Gone (Long Time Passing) Perhaps some consumer union or labor group would care to post a web site that would identify American Companies that have moved their manufacturing plants and headquarters to foreign countries and in the process downsized the American work force as they upsized the foreign workers. Every job given away by an American Company to a worker in a foreign country means one less job for an American worker. I can understand if a foreign company buys an American Company and moves manufacturing plants to their own country, but I can't understand an American Company doing this and for who's benefit. I realize these companies are doing this to be profitable and to survive but shouldn't they be concerned about the survival of the American workers and the survival of America? If a company moves their corporate headquarters out of the U.S. the obvious reason is to avoid paying their fair share of taxes, through tax shelters and tax havens. Why should we buy the stocks of Amerian companies that are moving their manufacturing plants to other countrys and locating their offices in other countrys to avoid paying their fair share of taxes. And in fact there are web sites and books identifying American and foreign made products. One site is www.HowtobuyAmerican.com and there is a book called "How Americans Can Buy American" by Roger Simmermaker. Thanks Larry...I think that I felt better after writing this...still trying to understand what is going on...you know, like when the horseless carriage came out and many had to retrain for new jobs...looks like many will have to make adjustments due to the effects of globilization...James |
