Assignments From My Daughter #2
By Larry Chadwick

L.L. Bean wasn’t really her style. But then again that hat. She had to have that hat. It would work so perfect with her classroom. So she sat down at her computer and proceeded to write a whole sequence of topic titles. Relying on her kindergarten experience she got her scissors out and separated each title into a single paper strip. When they were folded in half they went into her hat. And the hat went to her high school English classroom. It would do her juniors and seniors good to write impromptu papers on random topics. I had no way of knowing they would gift it to me the day I visited her classroom after she died.

Assignment #2 “If I Could Meet A Star”:

Fame. Surreal in some respects. And accomplished in some strange ways now days. Nobody I know has ever accomplished fame. So it is safe to say I have no friends who are stars. I think I know some people who are worthy of fame. I wonder if that counts? It sure seems that it should.

I have confessed, before, that I am not very good at brown nosing. In fact, I will not even try it. Meeting someone who is famous and striking up a conversation because of their fame is brown nosing. I have met and shared a hand shake multiple times with a famous person. But I am unable to compel myself to express my admiration for him. I cannot even acknowledge to him that I have followed his career from my early childhood. I will admit, to you, that I wrote a poem about him. But every time I reread it there is that tinge of brown nosing. So I keep it to myself.

But “for what it’s worth”, Paul Harvey, I think you are the best!

This is really neat to see. The days are getting closer to where pain will begin to flourish. I know that God will lead us through them, and bring happiness to us. Larry, Keep on reflecting. It brings so much joy to my heart. I love how you so easily capture the love and the hope and courage I would never see. I can only Imagine, the day I walk through the pearly gates! I love you!

Ah Larry, these are the kind of hearthugs I know she will be feeling, as I sure did in this great reflection.  I sure hope you are keeping a little book for your son, in case he has kids one day to read about this wonderful aunt of theirs?

The intro is perfect as it allows the reader whom may not have read earlier parts still come away with the reasons and the wisdom of each individual piece, and because it captures her spirit and light as a teacher.
As someone else suggested...you should make a book of these for sharing her spirit and yours so that the learning and enlightenment she wanted to give her students will carry on.
The inspire is a gift from the "traces left behind" ... the wisdom shared will light the way. So in knowing a normal class size...I am assuming there are many more to come and that has the moth smiling.

heart-hugs to you groovy guy

JM,
You must be a front row student. There are many more. And trust me they aren't all easy to write. Especially when you are 35 years older than the target group. And thank you for your deep kindnesses that help this broken heart survive.

Larry,
I interpretted this as the celestrial type of star!  Perhaps, sometime I'll write one about that.  Meanwhile, I enjoyed yours, and I think Paul Harvey is an inspiration!
