I stepped outside to see what the other side of life was doing tonight and found nothiing really new and then again nothing really old. Lost souls and young blood swaying to music that wasn't meant for either generation.
Then again cultures mix to make something that wasn't ever intended when the socially exceptable drug flows free. Those barely past their teens wanting a sound that wasn't intended for their race, mixed with the reminants of the almost-hippies and accented with the braindead vestages of yet an earlier drop-out crowd make for at least an interesting night in a small town bar.
The D-J wanted to please the youngest present, and the almost-hippies wanted only to find someone to hold their hands and sing with them as the night grew more desperate for most of those that found their way to the only entertainment the night seemed to be offering to those that were staying behind in a bizzarre new world.
In the decade and a half since I roamed among and thought myself a part of that crowd, the only thing that has changed is the artistry in the music and the the loss of the wisdom that came in the stories of the heroes that lived through a war that touched all of the world and helped form the one that we live in today.
I am proud that I was there to listen and learn from those that fought the evil that was present and real in the 1940's and hope that those that are young and impressionable are listening to those that fought an uglier fight and should be ready to teach the warriors we need today in the fight that is coming to our lives.
The Vietnam veterans are among the ones that we need to teach our young how to take the terrorist on in their own arena, and I can only pray that they don't remain as silent as they seemed to be tonight. Because many of them have seen and experienced warfare that is fought on the street and lived to tell the tale.
