CHAPTER ONE:

He leaned down and grabbed his scimitar.  Summer watched him quietly.  He rose his face to the rapidly approaching sunrise.  He turned and looked at her.
“Meet me here tomorrow at ten o’clock.  I will come for you.  You need not bring anything.  I will provide all you need.”  Summer blinked and he was gone leaving her to wonder momentairly if it was all a dream.

She returned to her home unable to sleep.  Her mind went over the previous night’s event.  She had thought at first that he was her would-be murderer.  How wrong she had been!  That thought was proven when her phone rang.  Summer didn’t bother to answer it.  The answering machine picked up on the third ring.  The voice that had haunted her called out tauntingly.
“Answer the phone Summer.  I know you’re there.  I know everything about you.  That’s why I’m going to kill you Summer.  You’re going to die a slow and painful death.  Your time is coming.  It’s coming soon.”

Her eyes stayed glued to the phone a while after the message ended.  He had been hunting her for a year now.  She didn’t involve the police.  What could she tell them?  For all she new her stalker could have probable cause to want her dead.  She didn’t know what she had done before she had lost her memories.  Summer didn’t think she was a bad person but how could she know for sure?  Besides some inherent instinct told her it would be far wiser to keep silent and not involve the authorities.

It all started when she was living in Tallahassee, Florida.  She began receiving little notes.

I know who you are.

They had startled her at first, then excited her.  Someone in the world knew who she was.  She wasn’t alone anymore.  Summer waited for that person to contact her, to tell her she had a mother and father who anxiously awaited her return.  Was it naiveté?  Yes, it was.  Everything about the note was ominous.  Thinking back, Summer recognized this.  No one contacted her to meet these parents she had created in her mind.  Instead she received more notes.

I know who you are and I will kill you.

I’ll get you before you get me.

The lost lamb remembers nothing making the slaughter easy.

The notes terrified her at first.  Her first instinct had been to run but she couldn’t leave her home.  Her only memories had come from Florida.  If she left, then what would she have?  Nothing, she wouldn’t have anything.  So she stayed. She clung to the little that she had.  He wouldn’t leave her alone though, her nameless predator.

He toyed with her for months before she began to receive the dead roses.  That was only the beginning.  Cats, dogs, squirrels, all with their throat slit, showed up on her doorstep.  He grew bolder and entered her home.  He thought her weak but he had underestimated her.  Summer was anything but weak.

He hovered above her bed poised to kill her.  Summer sensed his presence.  She slept very lightly and armed.  All she had was a knife but she managed to get away from him unscathed.  She left Florida then and didn’t look back but it wasn’t long before he found her once more.  It had coming to a point where it was either kill or be killed.  Now, though Summer had a way out.  That way out was named Skesis.

Jackie,
Now I like this it's tight and compelling.
