Once upon a time a beautiful baby was born in the castle by the Misty sea.She seemed to be normal in every way.Her little face would turn red and her tiny fists frailed the air but no sound did she make.As she grew older she would move her mouth as if to speak but no words issued forth. The king and queen sent for healers from all over the known lands but they could not break her silence. The old hag who lived in the deepest part of the castle dungeon was asked to exam the child. She was very wise in the arts of socery and spells. After she examined her she consulted her books and scrolls and tried many spells and potions but the princess remained silent.
The old hag said she needs a potion made from the powder of a unicorn's horn to make her speak. Now unicorns had not been seen for many years and the king sent out his hunters and knights to search the world for a unicorn horn.Who ever brings the horn and makes my daughter speak shall gain a king's ransom.
The other children mocked the poor little princess and laughed at her when she tried to speak. One day she became very vexed by the teaseing and ran away into the deep enchanted forest. As darkness fell she became very sleepy. She was so tired because she had wandered lost for many hours. She found a small pond by a sparkling water fall. She drank the cool water and fell fast asleep on the soft grass by the pond.As the sun rose the next morning she awoke and was amazed by the sight of a beautifull horse dringing at the pond.It was snow white and did not seem to mind her presence. It raised it's head and the girl noticed it had a long golden horn on it's head.A unicorn the girl's heart leaped with joy.The unicorn talked to her in her mind.It said "What are you doing in this hidden place?.The princess replyed "I ran away from my home because the other children teased me because I can not speak".The unicorn lay down and the princess was delighted in being able to have someone to talk to.She told the unicorn about how the healers tried to find the reason for her silence. They all fell to find a cure. The old hag in the dungeon told them I needed the powder from a unicorn's horn to make me speak. The unicorn felt sorry for the little girl but did not want to give her it's horn. When a unicorn loses it's horn it become a normal horse. The princess said "It must be lonely in these dark woods,do you have other unicorns to play with"? The unicorn sighed and said "alas I have search high and low but I have not be able to find any of my kin".The princess said "If you willingly give me your horn I will take you to my castle and you shall become my horse"."You will have the best of care and other horses to play with".The unicorn thoght about it and said "You may have my horn so you may be able to speak".When the princess touched the horn I fell off into her hand. She mounted the unicorn and they found their way back to the castle. The old woman ground the horn into powder and mixed the potion with many spells and waves of her wand. She told the princess"drink all of this and you shall have your voice".The potion seemed to unlock the girls throat and she started to cry.I can hear you cry said the old woman. She was taken to her mother and father. They rejoced and the king proclaimed that the old woman would become the royal sorceress. She was moved to the highest turret in the castle and lavashed with the best the kingdom could offer.
The princess found that not only could she talk but she could sing.Sing with a voice that caused any one who heard her would stop what they were doing and become enchanted. She loved the unicorn who was now a beautifull gentle mare. She gave her the finest oats and kept her in her own stable. She always talked to her every day and would ride here to the orchards and picked the ripest apples for her.
One day as the princess sat in the window of her room singing a knight rode by.He was on a quest to slay all the dragons that roamed the land.He heard the singing and rode till he was under the princess's window. He sat on his horse silently.Under the spell of her voice. She stopped singing and asked his name and from where he came.I am Sir Loric of the Golden Mountain and I am under orders to seek out dragons and slay them. The princess offered him the hospitality of her father's castle and sent her guard to have the moat bridge lowered. The knight rode his mighty black stallion across the moat into the castle.
Sir Loric found he could not bring himself to leave the presence of this young woman. He would sit for hours at her feet and she would sing for only him.On day his mind became clear enough for him to realize he was not carrying out his duty and he asked for audience with the king."Your majesty" he said."I come to settle a matter that troubles me greatly.I have been ordered on a quest to slay dragons but your daughter has cast a spell on me and I can not leave her".The king asked"Do you wish to be free of this spell.I have a sorceress who can break it if that will solve your problem".The sorceress was called and proclaimed."It is not just a spell that holds you Sir knight. You are bound by a power much stronger than an enchantment"."You are held by your love for the princess.I am powerless against love this strong".If I am fated to be slave to someone so beautifull I will have to take her as my wife.
The princess and the knight were married. The king sent his chancler to the king of ythe Golden mountain. After he told his story the knight gladly released the knight from his service.Sir Loric was made Captain of the king's guard and settled down to a happy life.In the evening the princess and her knight rode out on his mighty black war horse and her on the gentle white mare.Behind them froliced twin grey colts. Thus ends my tale.

Very nice story of love and giving even at a high cost to the giver.

Throw your heart out in front of you
And run out to catch it.
