1. First and foremost..
You shall have no other gods before me. See that I take first priority in your life.

2. You shall not make for yourself an idol
formed from silver or gold or other substance
for your worship is to be reserved only for me.

3. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.
Give my name the reverence that is due it. Do not swear
by anything, by my name or anything of my creation.

4. Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it Holy. Six days are made for labor,
the seventh is for a day of rest, use it as a day of praise and honor to me.

5. Honor your father and your mother,
Do not bring dishonor to their name or make them ashamed  that you are their child so your
days may be long on the earth.

6. You shall not murder.

7. You shall not commit adultery.

8. You shall not steal.

9. You shall not give false testimony, (do not have a lying tongue.)

10. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or any of his possessions

These are the ten commandments given to us by God, carved in stone.  Given to us by a loving God for our protection and well being. They were not suggestions but laws for humanity to be able to live in harmony with God and his fellow-man.  Jesus said that they could all be summed up by "being able to love you neighbor as yourself."

The breaking of any one of these laws, sets in place a crack in the foundation of our ability to live at peace and harmony with one another. Each law when broken, usually can not be just one law broken, but by breaking one usually a person breaks at least two or more and creates a domino effect bringing destruction and disharmony.

No one can break the laws of God without bringing harm upon himself and others. Jesus brought new meaning to the 10 commandments when he said that " when a man lusts after a woman, he has already committed adultery with her in his heart."  He was trying to show us that no one is without sin, and when we say we have not sinned we lie.  A person could be outwardly keeping the 10 commandments yet in need of forgiveness.  He was trying to prove that all of us need forgiveness of sins, his death on the cross was for all, from the worst of sinners to even those whose sins only remain hidden in their thoughts.
He was not saying that it was impossible to live by the 10 commandments, but was showing us that all were in need of the Savior to forgive their sins.  After a person has accepted Christ as their Savior God expects us to live by the 10 commandments. He does not want us to live in sin, but rely on Him everyday to help us live an unselfish life, one that is pleasing to God.  This is what He requires of us, and this is what we welling should do for the one who loves us so.  A life of devotion to God has many rewards, just as a good tree brings forth good fruits.  Plant your life in the word of God.  You will never be sorry.
