And so you turn down the crackle of the stereo--the AM radio's digital mumbling, 3 in the morning, an empty park, two years too late, your heart tipped and spilled like the liquid in a paper cup on the kitchen counter. February on the calendar, but July still shoots through your veins. Encompasses them as they pulsate with warmth, the cold bodies on benches with fever-stung hearts, the park silhouttes you and I never wanted to be. The empty souls that scratched off their wounds with nickels and fought the calendar, day by day.

Months and years and minutes and hours and seconds, but where do they all go? Every time you tip the waitress it's another minute lost, and every time the clock's hands slide themselves past the twelve it's another hour, and you count "one-onethousand" and there is another second. Flip the calendar, and cry for another month, a month gone by, and not an ounce of heart spent.

Do I pay the price? Do I give enough? Am I selfish in hoarding my graces for someday and watching the clock's hands spin out of control while time goes by, oh so still?

A night of glitz and streamers, confetti and party hats and Auld Lang Syne, and that's another year. I'm still clenching my fists in half-agony as I open my eyes at least part of the way. There was a gate here I couldn't open, an entrance to the park I'd never found before. Until tonight.

And so now I think I owe the world apologies for grasping dreams and holding onto them with only one hand. Even if I don't, the gate is wide open and my heart is still a fever and I'm not just a silhouette who won't give up. I'm not.

Fascinating.  This is a good combination of metaphore and actual events.  This was almost like a poem.

Beautiful work! I was pulled right in and kept there! I love this!

Can I be your willful breeze,
Come to touch,
Your heart to ease?

Aurora,
Very vivid, I really enjoyed this and I really empathize with the ideas here. Kind of like when you get in a relationship with someone you are mournful that you didn't get to spend time with them before. i thought you brought this out beautifully.

Aurora,

This is just filled with wonderfully imaginative allusions.  A delight!
