(I'd like to think this a poem in Prose, or a Prose Poem- I hope you approve)

We've Yet to Meet

We've yet to meet and still I'm thinking we'll have memories.

My car cruises down the highway, Oscar Peterson's piano is playing "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning", and while my eyes and conscious mind
pay attention to the road I'm picturing us doing all the trivial unimportant things
we'll remember when we're sitting in rockers complaining about our aches and pains.

The first time, at some all night restaurant when we sit for hours over coffee
learning about the things we've told no one else: How we felt about that first one,
Why we did what we did. Why we didn't.

This visual montage of the future continues, thoughts swimming by in random order
each somehow triggered by the former

We're barefoot - hand in hand walking the beach waves surprising our toes watching the sunset paint the sky.
We're snuggled close in chill morning air on a dewy meadow watching the sun return color and warmth to our world.
We're two kitchen klutzes making dishes for one another
trying to conceal what we're making, trying to discover
succeeding in sharing kisses, bumping not by accident.

Picture us on a drive, singing, harmonizing without a care
Picture us at our instruments struggling to adjust to each other's styles
still bringing out music no one has heard before.
Picture those moments of individual sadness, when we find comfort in the other's rapport

And oh the myriad places of wonder we'll share: gardens, cities alight,
towns of charm, where we walk cobbled streets, quaint shops - dressing each other
in unimaginable clothes, getting sly looks from waitresses and waiters

Parks: of nature's wonders where we'll hike and find pools of solitude,
with waterfalls of crystal clarity

Never will we see bird couples billing and cooing that we don't see ourselves

Oh I could tell you all the rest of this daydream those heated moments
I'm sure we'll treasure too… but these are those poets and writers
have written of over and over before. I know we'll remember them
they'll be so numerous they'll blur one into the other

The tape plays on "These Foolish Things…Airline tickets to romantic places…
Stumbling words that tell you what my heart meant…" and I sing along
"Oh how the ghost of you clings…These foolish things, remind me of you"

I'm sure I'll always remember the clothes you'll wear,
The way you walk how you'll feel in my arms. All of it.
That day when the barriers are broken down, the reservations cast aside
The willingness to meet, to be hugged and kissed, how mesmerizing it will be

But for the moment we've yet to meet.

Wonderful writing.  Such a marvelous, visual, romantic tale.  I like the fantasy element that is this piece.  It shows the hope of all the things to come that is love.

Karilea-

Some say - Hugging is what I do best
Certainly - Hugging is very high on my list of things to do very often and with great repetition
Thank you  ( I gather it is important to you as well )

This is so great.
I hope to read more very soon.

Mr. Yeats, when all else fails, hugging becomes a universal language...

Bill,
I love the journeys through your mind
It's like an fantasy filled with trivial incidents so much a part of life, those little things we never forget, yet never speak of. And this brings a personal touch to your writing. You bring the reader right in with you.
Nice piece

I remember back when I first hugged ('60's I think ) Never forgot the value of hugging.

This brought tears. Wildred Yeats
was a very sweet man, and I am glad
that our paths crossed, on our separate
journeys, as we traveled towards home.
