This time of year the park is wet spongy grass with benches water logged and on cold days the pond still skims with an icy shimmer. The gulls wait patiently for visitors seeking any glimpse of spring bringing offerings of bread crumbs for what ever has the courage to swim the icy water. Today this late afternoon there were just a few gulls soaking up the sunshine in this lonely deserted concert ground, outdoor wedding chapel and playground for children with kites of many colors. I had no crumbs so the flocks never gathered but one old gull decided i was worthy of a close up. He strutted to within five feet of me and looked me in the eye to see if he could read the musings of this lonely soul who sat on wet benches in the springtime. I said hello my old friend you are more beautiful than i remembered. I know you will never believe that a gull can converse with humans and think im quite delusional but i assure we made contact if but through the mutuality of our souls mingling free on a quiet sunday. He read my face and acknowledged this was not one of my better days and whispered to me, "diana set yourself free". I shook my head and wondered what he meant, i couldnt understand and then with that peculiar sound, that haunting cry that only gulls can make he soared and rose, floated, descended and circled wild and free and then i knew exactly what he was saying meant for me. As he walked at my feet he was contented at one with earth and his surroundings but when life changes to chaotic and the soul becomes discomforted then its time to soar beyond the bonds that tether, and rise to different images breathing free again above, beyond the pain. |

dear diana, i think this is a rather intriguing piece about everyday epiphanies (so to speak) that i would hold we all have from time-to-time. there are a number of grammatical and punctuational errors, but that is certainly nothing insurmountable through a little scrutiny or a decent editor. keep up the good work, and keep learning lessons from life -- i find that it's the best way to learn anything. sincerely, the beautiful freak also, if you would like someone to edit your piece for grammar/punctuation, i'd be glad to do so  |
