Most Embarrassing Moment?

Every now and then when my family likes to take a trip down memory lane we have everyone tell a story from the past.  One this one trip I asked my daughter to tell us one of her most embarrassing moments and this is the story she told.

I remember when I was in grade school, she said, I think it was fourth or fifth grade and we had all written a story about our favorite things.
We had sent home invitations to parents to come and listen to us read our stories in class. I was excited and yet afraid because I knew you (mom) may not be able to come for you had three jobs. I understood the reason you had to work so many jobs due to the fact you and dad had divorced and we needed the money. Well, I brought home that invitation and you PROMISED to be there for you never missed a school function and you always kept you promise come hell to high water.
On the day of our class readings I started to get nervous because you had not showed up yet. Silly me! I should have known better because at the last minute right before we were to begin you came running into the classroom. I was so happy.
As each of my classmates read their stories I watched you as you slowly started to nod of to sleep!!!  Boy was I embarrassed...

I was in total shock! I had never realized I had embarrassed her so much.
I felt so bad I wanted to cry. Well with a few tears in my eyes I looked at my daughter and asked her the following questions.
I was their to hear YOUR story correct me if I am wrong. She agreed.
When you read YOUR story did I not give you the utmost attention? Again she agreed. Out of the twenty-eight parents that were invited how many came? I recall only ten other parents there, is this a correct estimate?  She told me it was actually twelve. Okay so it was twelve.
And did those other parents applaud their child when they were done reading, or did they tell their child it was an awesome story?   NO they did not. Well Honey, I said to my daughter, I am sorry to have embarrassed you but the only reason I was there was to hear YOUR story. Not to sound like a meanny but the other kids did not mean us much to me as you did. I had made a promise to you and I kept it.

A little while later my daughter came up and gave me a very big hug and said, “ Mom I’d like to change the story I told to one of the “Most Proudest Moments”  in my life. Hearing you tell the story with a little bit of different meaning  has made me realize all the sacrifices you made to show me how much you cared. You were right, no other parent showed so much pride than you did that day. Thanks Mom.  Oh and by the way--I love you too!!!!

You got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
and show the world all the love in your heart
Then people are gonna treat you better
You're gonna find, yes you will
That your beautiful as you feel. Carol King

Engaging and well-written.  I enjoyed the glimpse into your life.  I haven't read any, but I imagine that this would be what makes a good "Chicken Soup" tale.  Thank God for family.

 Never regret

Wonderful tale, heartwarming for sure    I agree with Nagemx, though I've never read a "Chicken Soup" book, I'd believe this would fit right in.  Thank you for a smile
