In the space between moments

0 posted 1999-12-23 01:12 AM

This was written in the heat of the moment..I've always had a connection with the myth of the unicorn.  I identify with them and have always been intrigued by their beauty and solitude.

I am like the unicorn.  Noble, brave, yet isolated.  A
beauty unreachable, a soul untouchable.  Power
emminates, yet that power is fragile, weakened by the
grasp of hatred.  My pureness blackened by the burden
of living, of hiding who I am.  I have compassion, an
ability to love like few can.  And yet I am pushed
away, unaccepted, forced to dwell only with the few
who accept me for what I am.

I am a fighter.  I will not give up, no matter how
clouded and ominous the horizon, no matter how scarlet
stained my path may become.  The rain of stone may
arrive and darken my silver coat ruby, but I shall
continue to tread my road of destiny.

I am loyal.  Once you have broken the iron walls
surrounding my heart, you have gained something you
shall have forever.  And that is my love.  I shall
carry you in your weakest hour, I shall be your rock
and be your hope.  You may share in my riches even
when it seems there is nothing to share.  Like the
unicorn, my love is everlasting.

I am still painfully alone.  The clouds, the brilliant
moon, the very light of the stars may guide me, but in
my heart I am solitary.  With a bittersweet feeling I
watch life, finally realizing that I shall never fit
in.  My kind is rare, but we do exist upon the vast
emerald lands.  I know this, for I am the unicorn.

 *Krista Knutson*

~*Like a lion, without fear of the howling pack,
Like a gust of wind, ne'er trapped in a snare,
Like a lotus blossom, ne'er sprinkled by water,
Let me, like a unicorn, in solitude roam.*~ Hymn Of Buddha

This was spellbinding -- thank you for this glimpse into your soul.

Beautiful writing, Krista.  You always amaze me with your beauty and descriptive verse and imagery.  Excellent

My friend, this describes you well, but you don't always have to be alone, there are those of us who love you and cherish you.

My deepest thanks for being the rock, carrying me when I'm weak, and being my hope.

Thank you all so much!     I do know that I'm not always alone, and I cherish all of you for being here.  I do know that a part of me will always be a loner though.  Thank you so much for your kindness.

I think this is tremendous.  I read it and it reminded me somewhat of myself in a way, though i've never considered myself as a unicorn. Its interesting, i've never come across such a parallel with an animal before.  Very original, thanks.

sniff....sniff...can somebody hand me a tissue please. I grew up with every horse and unicorn book that ever existed... You described them perfectly...and me as well. I love your poem!!

Beautifully written and rich with language and flow, almost like a poem.

the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.

Wonderfully written.  The way in which you speak of this mystical creature brings it to life in my imagination.  I do notice a small similarity between the lines that say you carry people in their weakest hour and the fact thatGod does the same.  Wonderful writing, none the less.

Krista, I have always thought the Unicorn to be a truly beautiful, albeit fictional animal - but you have indeed brought it to life with this piece.  You have a marvelous talent and it is so like you to share the unfolding of it with us all.  Thank you.

     Wow, Alwye:

Never before have I read a tale
about a unicorn as beautiful as this.
A solid piece of art.  And, I mean art,
artists can bring paintings to life, you
have brought the unicorn to life with
your words.  Imaginative, unique, descriptive, flawless, brilliant, perfect!
I really look forward to more writing of yours.  Applause for Alwye, as I stand back in awe.  I printed out a copy for myself too!  I love this piece!

     Take care, Melissa Honeybee

Sunshine-wow, I'm very very thankful for your kindness.   To have someone like you think so much of something I wrote is quite an honor.

Melissa- Wow, I don't believe I've ever received a comment like that from anyone on anything.  (blushing) Thank you so much for taking the time to read it.  I am stunned by your wonderful comments.

Krista.....WOW ! This is an amazing, beautiful story. Not only does it describe the unicorn wonderfully and gives me a peek into your soul, it tells the story about me. One I could never (and will never) find the words for ! If you don't mind, I'll keep a copy of this in my special archives.
Thanks girl. This is absolutely wonderful !

Wow, thank you all so much.  I never thought this would get so much response.  But it is from my soul and I thank you for taking the time to glimpse into the depths of it.
