A great inky black shadow sat upon the young man’s shoulders, its ethereal body wrapped tightly around the man’s, and his mouth whispering secrets in his ears, denouncing love, happiness and pleasure. The shadow’s seductive whisper stirs in the man towering resentment for mankind as the shadow feeds him the darker meaning behind every simple detail.  The man seethes with pent up rage and hatred, waiting until some unfortunate should make some mistake to give reason for an explosive vent to his emotions.  The spiteful little spirit constricts its body tighter and whispers passionately in the man’s ear, his face hardens, and his eyes burn with rage.

Friends compliment him and joke around him, smiling and having a grand time, while the shadow whispers in the youth’s ear.  The compliments become twisted into thinly veiled contempt, jokes are serious and bring with them rage, and his fellows have a good time on behalf of his misery.

The shadow haunts me, even though I try repeatedly, but without success, to denounce it.  The shadow grabs at my soul, dragging it down in the seas of wrath, flooding me with a raging torrent of depression.  It ties me in knots, inside and out, and leaves me with a feeling of nothingness in my soul.

I’m always in battle with my depressing little shadow for control of my emotions… unfortunately I lose quite often to it’s whispers…

I have no idea if its the same, but I find it much easier to cope when I accept the fact that my demons are merely an extension of me. I have to accept them in order to control them...

Oh Abe....I must say that I do understand this a lot more than you may realize..the shadow haunts me a lot too.  This is a creative, wonderful way of describing the feeling.  Do remember that I'll always be here, a light to try and push away that shadow, my friend.  Keep up the writing, you have a rare talent.

Thanks very much for your replies!

Christopher - I wrote this while in the shadow's grasp, I know it, I feel it, yet still I plummet down the spiral until my little rays of light to show me a way out.  (Krista, you are one already )

Alwye - Thank you very much for the compliments, comments and offer of light.  You've helped me see through the darkness of the Shadow many, many times.

The Shadow can always grasp on to anyone, and often does, that's why we have friends to save us from his evil clutches. I will always be there to save you.

 Luv ya

Don't we all Dusk, lose to the shadow's whisper more often than not? But I must agree with those who have posted before me that is what friends are there for. For even when we are in our darkest hour if we allow them to our friends will always be there for us.
