I will never forget the day my dad told me he was going away. He told me don’t worry,

I’ll be back in two days. My dad was going to have brain surgery to remove a tumor on

the optic nerve. I remember those two days past very slowly, and my dad never came

home. I remember asking my mom, “where’s daddy at?” then saying “mom I hate it when

you look at me like that”. It was something in her eyes that told me dad wasn’t coming

home for a long time, little did me his son know his dad almost died. After 2 weeks he

came out of his deep acoma. I was aloud to visit him now. All I wanted was my dad back.

I sit and reminis and remember me walking to the intensive care ward where my dad laid

like a lifeless vegetable. All the nurses looked at me like they were going to cry. I walked

into his room, my dad didn’t look like my dad at all he laid lifeless on his special bed

with all types of tubes sticking out of his pale skinny body. I said hi he faintly said “Who

are you?” I replied you son with a tear streaming down my face. I tried to hold back my

powerful feelings. I felt as if my heart had been ripped out of my chest and thrown on the

floor. Who had the right to take the life from my dads body who had the right to take his

family away from him I couldn’t understand. I felt as if though he was still my dad but

his soul was gone and I wondered if it would ever come back and if it would be the same.

Poignant story Dean, full of saddness and melancholy.

Very moving story, Dean.  I'm touched by this, you have my sympathies.  A smile for hope
