Around me the leaves fall in showers of gold and russet hues. I turn my face skyward and feel the gentle whispers as they rustle over my cheeks. My eyes blinded by the sun shining down through the bright yellow maple leaves, as it highlights my hair and my eyes. Until I am fall-colored and autumn tinged, in an amber like dream of soft hues. Spreading my arms to the heaven; I turn, around and around and around. Dancing a farewell step to a beautiful Indian Summer. I swirl faster and faster, stirring the leaves into a frenzy ‘neath my feet. My laugh rings out , true and strong. As my hair lifts with the force of my dance, and my eyes sting from the leaf dust. Soon my steps dizzy and I stagger a bit, and I fall *plop* deep into a nest of cushioning leaves. Where I soon close my eyes and daydream away a peaceful afternoon. Forgetting for a moment that winter is gathering her forces to steal away my precious fall memories and replace them with a dark rainy gloom. ------------------ "We have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night" (Tombstone epitaph of two amateur astronomers) |
