Debbie didn't know what to do. Was Edward even going to make it? "So much for my innocent walk on the beach!" she thought laughingly to herself.
"Come on Edward, wake up and talk to me please?" she said as she mopped his feverish brow. "Come on please, today is too nice a day to leave!" She kept saying it over and over, coaxing him back to the world of the living.
Quite suddenly he trembled, lost all signs of illness and sat up and looked around. Just as though he had been having a little kip on the beach. A lazy afternoon. He brushed the sand off him and turned to look at Debbie. "So you found your biological Mum back in '92!" he said out of the blue. "I beg your pardon?" replied Deb. "You heard me, so how was it meeting Beryl for the first time?" he asked. All the while his colour was looking better and he seemed almost normal.
"How do you know I'm adopted and my biological Mum is Beryl?" Debbie asked Edward, shaking both inside and out.
"A little bird told me whilst I was sleepin," replied he almost mysteriously. "You wondered all those years and you eventually found her, and 3 half sisters to boot!"he said. "Not bad, not bad at all!"
'This must be a dream, it isn't real?' replied Debbie with a slight sob in her voice. "I can't deal with this now!"
"Yes you can and you will Debbie, for there isn't much time!" he said with a look of real urgency about him. "I don't know how I know what I know, whilst I was unconscious or whatever, it came to me in a dream!" he said reaching for her hand. He took it in his, stroked the back of Debbie's hand and looked it lovingly.
Debbie didn't know what to make of this.
Perhaps he has had a stroke and his brain is hallucinating or something. This is too much. Why is he saying this? Who is he really?
"Who have you spoken to Edward?" she asked, 'And how do you know me?' Debbie liked the feel of her hand in his, it felt right, like being home. It wasn't uncomfortable or embarrassing at all.
"Don't worry Debbie, all to soon you will understand everything, be patient, and share some time with me, please?" he said in answer to Debbie's questions. He asked this urgently, "Please just sit and talk with me some more, please?"
How could she leave him? Where was that bloody ambulance? Debbie had never been strong stomached herself, she hated illness, couldn't handle it at all, except when it was her son, then she found the strength somehow. Debbie had quiet thoughts and prayers within herself. "Dearest God, Please let the ambulance arrive soon, and please help Edward, whatever it is that is wrong with him?" She hoped the Lord would listen and help them both.
