Evil. There is no other word that describes him. Except for maybe insane. He told me a story of witches, demons and families noble. Told me of the origins of hell. Exacting details of ritual sacrifice, tortures and murder. There can be no other words for this. John's story wove well into the night. The wine flowed freely, mostly consumed by me. I was terrified. I had heard tales of one such as he. I'd always thought they were locked up, and not set lose on society. And to think his poor sisters were dependent upon such a man.

I decided Anna and I would do well to get far away from her family. I bid John a farewell and went in search of her. The sun was starting to rise over the ocean, vivid reds and oranges against the green-blue of the rolling seas. I could feel the spray of salt against my cheeks. The light breeze ruffling my hair. I found her at the bow her head hung low tears on her porcelain face. Gently taking her into my arms and holding her close, "Don't cry love .I believe him not. You'll be safe with me...always." Her tears only increased. I was at a loss. How does one deal with tears? These were the kind that torn at my heart, helpless to stop them I held her tighter.

" No we can't not be! He's telling you the truth. Witches we have been for centuries. And now you know you will leave me too!" Ah dear God, what has that insane Monster done to you? I thought. It was clear his delusions had effected her. It was all I could do just to comfort her. My decision made, I would take her from that madman's evil grasp as soon as we landed!" No Sweetling, you are mine. As I am yours. I'll do what ever I must to be with you."

The most radiant smile crossed her face. It rivaled the very sun in its brilliance, and warmed my soul. She was mine and always would be. I would let nothing harm her ever. I walked her back to her cabin, at the door we shared a kiss. A kiss of promise and love unending, soft sweet and sensual. I feel in love with her all over, her now red rimmed eyes and button nose. Her heart and soul were mine; she had entrusted them to my care. And care for them I would.

The voyage was almost half over when strange things started to happen. A strange malady had hit the crew and passengers. There were no fevers, but all suffered from delusions. Fearing that this might be a contagion I quarantined the ill. My ship surgeon was at a loss to what was happening. The crew was scared, the remaining passengers in a panic. Those afflicted where noted to have razor slashes in various stages of healing on their arms and chests. Yet no weapon could be found. Some appeared while the person was in full view of others. No blood was seen to come from the wounds, and then healed with no scarring.

Storms seemed to be hitting us from every angle. Gale force winds and rain, slowing our trip. Rigging torn from their very foundations. The main mast cracked. Between the illness and the storms my crew and I were working around the clock. I started to fear the possibility of sinking. I knew if we reached land we would not be permitted to dock due to the illness. No town wants an unknown sickness in port. I changed course to the nearest Island, only one day away. Hoping it would be uninhabited.

Luck would be on our side in this. Late into the night a place was found. We dropped anchor and waited for the light of morn. The ship toss by the winds, rolled side to side. The mast had now broken completely, the sails in tatters on the deck. And still the sick fell.

During these tempestuous days, I had missed my Anna. I had seen her not for 3 days now and missed her much. It was late and I knew she would be asleep. But still I wished for her calming presence, the sweetness of her voice, the gentleness of her touch. I made my way to my cabin, wanting nothing more than to sleep. I noticed a light beneath my door as I approached. AH Shaun, my cabin boy must have started the fire in anticipation of my return. A good lad he, always ready for whatever I threw his way. I was not expecting the surprise that waited inside.
