The place was romantically lit, decorated in soft, warm colors. The atmosphere was
comforting and welcoming. Her home away from home. Candles lit each table in a
celestial glow and jazz music flowed softly from the speakers on the walls. Fresh flowers
graced every table filling the room with their sweet perfume. A feeling of safety and
warmth engulf you as you enter the "Urban Peasant". This was her favorite place to relax
and have a few drinks with her girl friends after a stress filled week.

They were sitting at a corner table. Four of them, friends since high school, unwinding
from a very long week. The conversation was light, you could tell that they were
comfortable with each other as private jokes flew from one to another. They were
discussing the antics of the politicians. There was an election in two weeks and they
thought all of the candidates were clowns. As Linda, the red head in the bunch, was about
to deliver the punch line to a joke she was telling Daniel approached. He was a tall,
handsome fellow with a cheery disposition and so very kind hearted. "Good evening
ladies." He spoke with a deep melodious voice and a dashing smile on his face. When he
smiled it always showed in his eyes. Linda, Cheryl and Laura all smiled and in a chorus of
female voices you heard "Hello Daniel." They all laughed at the united voices. Jana smiled
and added "Hi Daniel." the smile on her lips didn't come close to touching her eyes. Some
how she knew that her dear friends had set up this chance encounter.

For Jana time froze as the easy banter continued around her. These women whom she
adored had tired to set her up with this man several times in the past. Her mind flashes
back to a conversation with Laura six months prior. "You have to start living again
sometime Jana! Daniel is the sweetest man you will ever meet and he would never push or
hurt you. You know this! Just give him a chance." Laura's tone was exhasberated. she was
frustrated with her friend and wanted to see her happy. "It has been three years and you
haven't even been out to dinner with a man." Laura ranted. "what am I going to do with
you?" Jana just sat there for a moment, then softly she replied. "It isn't that I don't like
Daniel. You see that is my problem, I can handle men that make sexual advances towards
me and the ones that think they can play with me." She stood up and paced the room.
"Daniel is different. He wants to get to know me and ........well. He wants something from
me that I don't know if I have to give. To be perfectly honest with you........I'm
frightened." A single tear caressed Jana's cheek and rolled unnoticed to her chin.

Thrust out of her thoughts by a knee bumping hers, she looks around the table slightly
disoriented. Her eyes finally focus on Daniel's face. That is when it starts. In the pit of her
stomach. Her muscles tense, a ball forming there. Then it spreads down her legs and up
her spine. Every muscle in her body is suddenly screaming at her to move. Then from the
bowels of her being, the icy fingers creep. Dancing slowly through every fiber of her body.
Balls of fire shooting through her brain, panic makes her look for escape. "Excuse me
please." Slips from her lips as she rises from the table. Moving in the direction of the
washrooms as well as the door, her breath comes in shorter, faster gasps. Everything is in
slow motion in her brain as she pushes herself through the door and into the parking area.
She has to find her car....She just HAS TO!

When her thoughts finally begin to move again, she finds herself in her home. Sitting
quietly watching her babies sleep. The warm glow of the moon casting gentle shadows
over their faces. The soft sounds of her children's sleeping breath soothes her. A sigh of
relief escapes her lips and her body relaxes, leaving nothing but exhaustion. The familiar
comfort of this room and her children lull her into a blissful sleep. Sleep where her demons
can't find her. Her demons live in the light of consceinceness. Tomorrow she will deal with
them and her regrets.

This was copyed and pasted into this forum. I dislike the format in which it is shown here. I apologize.

Wow.

I feel, in some ways, very connected to this woman. It is hard, so very hard, to deal with demons. Bravo on this piece.

Welcome to the club.

Methinks we should rename this to "Passions For Demons."
Thank you Marilyn for sharing yours with us, it is important for me at least, to know that I am not the only one in the world with them clinging to my back.
Good job friend and worry not, the feeling came through despite the format.

You write of emotions and a situation many have to face, and you have done it admirably.

You know of the emotions and write them so well.
I've written for you as you will see, it seems to me it's more like a magazine article than anything else. I'd prefer to try and write a story next time.
Let me know what you think..

Saxoness....Thankyou for your kind words.

Robert B.....Being male doesn't mean you can't relate to a female's emotions. We are all human and we all have demons.

Christopher.....LOL@ Passions for Demons.
Everyone stuggles with their own demaons. It just makes it easier to share them. This helps us know that we are not alone. That is the greatest comfort there is to be found when the darkness covers.

Satiate.......Thankyou very much for your kind words.

Isis.......I think that you did a wonderful job with the challenge. I will how ever challenge you to a short story about.......I'll leave the topic up to you. My head is wrapped around your challenge at the moment. LOL
