I thought I would post pieces of this short story or whatever it ends up being, as I write it. There won't be much at first, but by the 3rd or 4th posts I hope to get some replies just letting me know that you are interested enough to keep on reading them. Haven't done the short story thing in many years. Please bare with me. Take care.
Tyson

Whenever he looked down just below the top of the steering wheel at the odometer, the numbers were always signifigant.
It never seemed to fail.
The year he was born, the day, the hour.
Hell, one day he looked down in mid July to see his full numerical birthday. So he lit a ciarette.
On many days he saw '666', and once saw '1999' (of course if you turn the 9's upside down, and then the whole millienum dilemna), and then '1985', the year he graduated from high school.
The truth of the matter, though, was that he rarely ever looked down there. But when he did...boom...he always had to smoke another cigarette.

Somebody is trying to tell me something, he thought to himself. Is it me? Maybe it's the end of my rope, floating towards my neck, whispering death to me.

Just before one of his many bouts with the '666', oh, every thousand miles, or so it seemed, he realized he was only 30 miles away until reaching that famous number.
But he was back in town, now, from traveling through every state in the continental U.S, so he wouldn't get to the number of the beast for a few days, probably.
He was seriously dreading the next few days, and knew he would be looking down there every tenth of a mile or so.
Something was going to happen.

Good beginning......
Interesting way to post a story, kinda like a soap opera, keeps us waiting. I'm eager to hear more.

Systematic, Hoot, Dragoness, and DreamEvil,
Thank you all for reading and leaving comments. I would leave more than I do, and more often, if I had more time write now. Hope to have more time soon. See you then.
Tyson
