Change is inevitable. It flows with the surety of death and the compassion of dead stone. All things change and such is neither good nor bad it merely is. It is an inexorable fact of nature and existence. This being true, it is also true that humanity does not deal well with change. In fact, people tend to be unable to accept change in an individual once they have some pre-conceived notion as to what or who they are. Here are just a few examples. An alcoholic father loses his rights to even see his children because of his abuse of them and their mother. This sobers him up and after much effort, kicks the habit that brought his family to ruin. Old friends will still see the drunk, his kids will see the drunk, his ex-wife will still see the drunk as well. Only after years of living sober and doing good will those people acknowledge the change in the man and if their scorn drives him back to the bottle, well he's a drunk what do you expect? The man would have to start over and find new friends that had no knowledge of his prior life in order to start over with dignity. A more extreme example; a convicted child molester is released from prison after years of incarceration. He has successfully completed sex offender's therapy and paid the debt to society that he owed. He must register his address with his state of residence for ten years past the end of his parole. He will find it near impossible to find a place to live since the background check will show his crime. The same applies to finding a job. Though his crimes are vile, how much penance must he do to be allowed to become a contributing member of society again? Keep in mind, it is because they lack a sense of community that they act out the way they do. Understandably an individual should be wary of the offender being around children, but when is paying for your sins enough? Is there some vast difference between what society considers restitution but what the individual sees? Should there be? I think there is and I don't think there should be a difference. It is impossible not to have a difference between the two since individuals vary more than society does.

Point being that one cannot change and become better than they are if the individuals around that person refuse to see or accept that very change. End of rant.

Soul-Brother, this is excellent, it is true,

Point being that one cannot change and become better than they are if the individuals around that person refuse to see or accept that very change.

I couldn't agree more.
Well done

Isn't that the dry truth about justice? Justice comes from the eye of the beholder. What is acceptable depends on who sees it, not who is responsible for it.

Outstanding as usual.

Well stated as usual friend, yet I feel compelled to add something to what you said as a proviso:
People are leery of any change that might prove bad, or disturbing, or requires trust.
Speaking on change at a different level, people are in fact seek change. Without change, boredom ensues and people stagnate. So, in order to prevent personal stagnation, people will seek change. Whether it is in the form of a different genre in their reading, a new lover, new technology, etc, they search for, indeed need, change.
As you said, "It is an inexorable fact of nature and existence." I agree with that 100% Granted, some change is difficult to deal with and/or accept, yet there is also a lot, if not more that people look forward to.

As always, very eloquent and intelligent!
Chris

Change for the better, yes. Boredom and mental stagnation will lead to decadence, which is change anyway. Since change is unstoppable, it becomes the responsibility of the individual to direct the direction in which personal change continues. The same goes for the changes within a society. However, individuals still need validation that their efforts will carry some reward or there is no reason for them to change in a direction more beneficial to society.
