AWAKENINGS

There comes a time in life we all experience. A time of silence. A time of loneliness. A time of sorrow, hurt, anger and remorse. A time we feel utterly cold to the bone. A time we question our very own will to live.

Letting go of love, indeed, is the only thing harder than holding on to it. It's so easy to cling to memories of the past. It's so easy to dwell on reflections as they slowly fade into the darkest corners of your mind. But memories won't hold you back. They won't comfort you. They won't warm you from the night's bitter cold.

Time is a given. It's the reality we all sooner or later must come to face. We must step forth out of the shadows and once again feel the burning warmth of the sun. We must let it melt the ice from our fingertips so we can learn anew how it feels to touch, how it feels to be touched.

Set down the stale photographs that color your world black and white. Open up your eyes to all the beautiful colors that surround you now. Can't you see them calling to you? Oh, won't you answer them? Won't you open up your heart and free the repressed feelings? Learn to dance with the unchained emotions.

The time has come to learn that indeed there are two sides of love; hanging on, and letting go. Hanging on to lost love only distorts its true beauty. It taints the memories and diseases your heart. You must learn to let go. Letting go won't shame the love or make it less than it really was. Letting go only lets you fully appreciate the sweetness of the love experienced.

Reach out to the world, you'll see the world has been reaching to you. Hold true to yourself and you'll find that you still can smile, you still can laugh, and you still can love.

Welcome to Passions in Prose, my fellow Dark Lord!

Well now this is not only personally relevant at this point but also quite relevant to the forums in general.
Michael I have to say that you are quite right in your statement that life is not black and white. Up until recently, I saw life in shades of grey. All things were eitther good or evil or an alloy of the two. Color in my perception is a recent innovation and as overwhelming to me as a junkie's first dose of his or her drug of choice. Consider the various shades of each color and life becomes truly overwhelming. Imagine someone hallucinating hardcore for the first time on L.S.D. and visiting Vegas at night. That is a close approximation of the delightful bewilderment I face each day.

Indeed, I have learned that the human heart does wither and fall fallow when deprived of the richness you entreaty us in your essay to become open to. I find that misery is as delightful as love because each presents an exquisitely glorious sensation full of richness and new-tinted perspective. Pain is life, life is love, life is short. I will do far more than merely endure. Hail and well met.

Thank you Christopher,
I'm still a bit shy when it comes to prose, your approval means much.

Dream, this was one I especially wanted to share with you for the recent turn events in your life (as well as mine). I knew, if anyone, you'd relate well. Thank you. Your Las Vegas line sums it up well, you are so good at those analogies.

Wow.......that really hit home with me......I have that habit of not letting go of the past...for me it is not necissarily past love but past hate....but isn't hate merely the reflection of love?

Although what you said rings true...it is often nearly impossible to let go of the past, because at times the past is the only thing some people have...to enjoy, to remember....and to torture themselves with.

Michael, Michael, Michael, (shaking head sadly) You need no approval my friend, (though I am honored you value my opinion.) Much like Dream, I have a feeling that it would be impossible for you to fail, when you place your pen upon the paper!

Step forth and feel the warmth I give you - I melt away your painful yesterdays, and give you reason to love for tomorrow.....*** I bow to you, my love. Beautiful thoughts you have shared.
