Dear Daddy,

I wanted to throw my arms around you, today.
I wanted to run to you and have you pick me up and
spin me around and hold me close, like you did
when I was little.
But neither of us did these things.
I remember how we used to...
Funny, now, it seems like a dream...
Today, I wanted to play the games we used to play
and laugh the way we used to laugh.
I wanted to sing the songs we used to sing,
Together.
But neither of us did these things.
It was a nice, "hello" and "how are you?" and
that day-to-day exchange of words,
And you were on your way out the door.
Part of me wanted to go with you, sit with you,
lay my head on your shoulder.
But I couldn't.
Was I so much easier to love back then?
Don't you know I'm still your little girl?
Mostly, I just wanted to know that you love me.
And today, I wanted to say that I love you.
But neither of us did these things.

Very sad indeed. I lost touch with my own parents for awhile. Hold on to what you want from your father, else bitterness wins.

I read this with tears in my eyes. I've been going through a difficult thing lately, and your words moved me greatly. I hope you can find again what you had with your father. I'm afraid all may be lost with mine. Hugs to you for posting this beautiful work.

It is sad when life's realities make us lose focus of what is important in said life.
Hold onto love, regardless whether it is a father, mother, lover. It is a precious thing, that's rare to find.

Thank you Dream, Caroline, and Christopher. I definitly appreciate your sentiments. I have become a lot closer to my dad in the last two years than I had been in my teen years. I'm afraid, too, that I can't fix what was broken. However, I haven't given up on trying. Thank you all so much.

What can't be mended..sometimes, can be smoothed...making room for new. You are in my thoughts with this one, it touched me deeply. Beautiful writing, as always.

Satiate, the words match the woman. Beautiful they both are.
