Gather round, friends, gather close around this fire and warm your hands. Listen as I speak of a woman of fire and strength, hidden behind a gentle and sweet nature. Imagine as she stands, staring across a panorama of snow and ice, staring out and wondering about the land behind her mountains, the land she has never seen. This is Severn, this strong girl-woman who does not know her fate and would perhaps quail if she did. She is everything I could wish to be, my creation, existing only in words.

Her father she did not know - a grave crime he did commit when Severn was a small child and was driven out into the wilds, maddened by the lash marks sliced into his back. Driven away, he was, to be devoured by the snowkires - majestic cats of the mountains. Her mother was a leader in their village of the snow, and, dependent on their woman strength in the harsh terrain, a deep, inseparable bond united them. Yet Severn knew a man, counted as the father of her heart, a man who brought joy and light into her mother's eyes. He is The Wanderer, Healer of the Land, nameless but not without a soul. Offspring, it is rumoured, of the Lady of the Earth. With a touch he restores the life to those who wish still to live. He knows intimately of the Journey, he knows the channels of the body, the essence that drives the force of life - yet he also knows when a life must fade and in those times his touch brings comfort to the grieving. In those sparse times when he comes to love Severn's mother, she follows him as a shadow follows a man, devoted as any daughter.

Life bled out its Journey in the village of the snow, passing without event, until, one darkened day, life blood was fatally shed.
They came, swift demons, creatures who were men, yet not, creatures who drew their swords and sliced away the life from all. Severn, she took a stab into her stomach and lay still, her mother's body slumped lifeless over her, protective till the end. Yet Severn lived - her Journey had only just begun.

And so the Wanderer found her, come to see his love. His foster daughter lay stone-cold, the wound turning to death. With shaky hands and a screaming heart he healed her and took her gently from that place. His love he buried and part of his soul resides there still, keeping watch over that small pile of sad stones.

And now we look to a time when the Wanderer, Severn, a young woman and a young man are huddled close around a fire, much like own. They have travelled far, the adventures have been many, they are battling to save their world. Yet the light from Severn shines brighter than the flames. She is a beacon, a woman whose nature is so sweet, bees rest upon her arms in search of nectar. These young people, their identities matter not just yet. Suffice to say, the Wanderer had searched long for them, looking for twin scars which would tell him the were the Ones he sought. He found them, both hurting and broken: The boy - driven from his family by a brutal father. She - escaping from tragedy and a father who loved her too much. Spiteful, angry creatures they were when first the Wanderer bought them to his haven in the forest, where trees part their boughs for him to pass. And Severn: she nurtured all like a mother, though she had lost her own. Her gentle smile, grace and shining heart soothed the girl and caused in the heart of the boy love to bloom.

Yet, good things seem to die so soon. Severn had a part to play - and this part was death. The future of her world rested upon it, though she knew it not. But the forst told her. She walked one day, collecting food for her 'family', bees following her footsteps, when a bear stepped forth from the trees. It stared at her, and without fear she stared back and read the message in its eyes. Shock numbed her, then she turned to flee. But then, she stopped, her courage and fire blazing and stepped one pace closer. It reared on hindlegs and bowed, regret in its animal eyes. Then, with one blow it felled her and silently walked away.

So, once again, the Wanderer found his daughter, lying still and cold. Life faintly beat, but no will was there in her to live. 'WHY', he screamed. 'Oh why' and his desire for joy fled. The girl and boy, weak creatures still, retreated into numbing grief: The flower of their hearts was gone, leaving withered stalks and loss. Yet the death of their beloved inspired fight. The boy, he watched his companions sink into living death and knew he had to wake them. He took his rightful place as leader and usurped the Wanderer's place. An adult from this frail boy now emerged, an adult who would go on to save his world. Only one event could have brought this to pass - the death of dear Severn. Tragedy sometimes brings the rightest things and Severn had played her part. Come closer to the fire of friendship and story, friends, come close and warm your hands.

This tale is not over, no. Severn still lives - she lives in me and on PinP!

Wonderful! If your book is half as good as this, I'm buying two copies!
Magnificent Severn, and interesting to me to note that there are some possible Freudian issues lurking in the corners of your story!
I don't know what else to say, other than I'm glad your spirit survived to bring us your peace!

By the by, you'll notice everyone, that I kindly spared you the obvious story of how I got my internet name!!!
