Ok Son Holzhauer 1955-1976

To my beautiful mother, who died way too soon. As a child, I was always told that you were so beautiful that God took you to Heaven so you could be his angel. Not quite the truth, but simple enough for a small child to understand. Some truths are too ugly to comprehend. Were it not for the drunk driver who killed you, you would still be here for us to love.

Even though I only had you for a short while, I learned many things because of you. I forged my independence by being raised by a single father who wasn't ready for the responsibilities of fatherhood. I learned the value of family, because I never had one. I found courage in your example when you left your home to come to a foreign land. I discovered the importance of living life to the fullest, because you never know when it will end. I found that you need to follow your heart, because that is the only thing that will bring you happiness. And most importantly, I found the true meaning of a mother's love. Although you aren't really here, I know that you watch over me, my own guardian angel. This is the legacy you have left me. You will always be in my heart, my beautiful mother, my angel. I miss you more than you can possibly know.

My dear, this is a poignantly sad story and quite a shock for a child to live with. I applaud your courage in posting it.

What a beautiful name your mother had, and what a wonderful memory you have made for her, despite the tragedy of her passing. Thank you so much for sharing her/your story.
