This is the one thing that I hate about the summer: it’s too hot to
sleep, no matter how tired I am. I see the sun rising gracefully
and gloriously through my window, almost mocking me. That if I
finally do find my sweet slumber, I will miss the beautiful,
eventful day that lies before me. And I lie here, contemplating if
I should stay awake and fight exhaustion or if I should continue
to lie here until I am fully rested.

I think of all the things I need to do that have yet to get done: the dishes piling up in the sink that need to be washed and dried... the cracker crumbs that need to be vacuumed... the furniture that needs dusting and polishing... the toys that need to be picked up and put away... And the more I think of these endless chores, the more exhausted I feel.

I close my eyes and imagine myself throwing an old suitcase in the back of my car and driving away... not knowing
where my destination lies... Yes, I need a vacation. Not a long one- Just a relaxing, worry-free, care-free vacation.

And where ever it is that I am going, there must be a body of inviting water. Water that shimmers in the moonlight beneath the twinkling stars. Water that sparkles in the early morning sunshine. Water that gives life to surrounding trees with drooping leaves and gaping branches. Trees that might invite the heart of a child to come and climb as high as possible.
Beautiful trees that give meaning and purpose to the colour green in every sense of the word. And water that peacefully
calm, save for its gentle, lapping waves that roll softly to the shore. And it would be here that I would nestle myself in to the
trunk of and encompassing tree, take up my pen in hand and write my verses without the interruption that stress brings to me.
It would be here by the water’s edge, barely catching each gentle wave as they roll carefully over my feet, that I would
indulge myself in the comfort of being alone. So peaceful and quiet... one among nature...

And as I open my eyes, I’m pulled back in to the reality of where it is that I truly am. I am still being mocked by the
radiant, rising sunshine on my tired back... and burdened by the endless chores... So it is now that underneath the sunshine, I choose to sleep.

Lovely words, one voice. I can FEEL how much you need a vacation.

I truly loved this. I felt myself relaxing as I read each word. Next time I hear my yard begging to be mowed, or my dishes crying to be washed I'll think of this and fall back to sleep!
