I wanted to see wich of the collaboration poems/pics with Ekkehard May I already submitted and used smart search as I always do, but.... it will only show me 5 poems on my name in open #25 and none of those collaborations.

How come?

Sometimes, on my end of the planet, the Smart Search only updates every so often, Titia.  So anything I might have posted yesterday, or even the day before, might not show up.

I set my pages to 200, and use CTRL-F [opening another window] for my computer's "find" mode.  I then type in my user name, and it will locate all posts on the 200 page that I have posted; if I don't find what I am looking for, I go to the next set of 200 pages, and try again.  That may help, until Artemis updates.

There are two tools in the system for finding things. One is the Find icon Find Poems which is very, very fast and puts almost no load at all on the server. The reasons it's fast and easy is because it depends on a file that exists for every single Member, which holds a list of every single thread they've started. Unfortunately, the Find icon is of limited use because, as Karilea suggested, it isn't always current. I have to build those files periodically and, as the size of our database has grown, it gets built a little less frequently all the time.

The other tool is Smart Search, which does NOT need to be rebuilt all the time. SS is a live database and "should" always be current. The only exception to that is deleted or moved threads, which aren't immediately updated in the SS database. When those aren't a concern, as is usually true, Smart Search should have a copy of every single thread in our system (and all the replies in our non-Archived forums, too). In short, what you were looking for WAS there.

What you actually discovered was a bug in the program that only surfaced under some very specific conditions. You were searching for an Author (not a Search Term) and you excluded all replies, looking only for originating posts. Would it surprise you to discover that each of the threads not being found by SS also included a reply by you?

Had you turned off the Exclude Replies flag, SS would have shown you your missing threads. Of course, if you had done that, as most people do, as I certainly always do, this bug might not have been discovered for another three years (which is how long it's been in the system).

I'm really glad you asked, Titia, because I hate bugs. And any time anyone thinks that Smart Search isn't finding what is out there, they too, should bring it to my attention. 'Cause, trust me, I don't mind fixing my mistakes.

Thanks to both for your answer.

I discovered a bug call Balladeer Ron, he'll fix it for you!!

Actually your explanation of what happened makes very good sense. But...can you see what I did that's magic! Geesh computers never stop to amaze me.

Thank you so much Ron for taking the time to answer. Do you ever sleep?

for both, Titia
