Same old story, Sudhir. Just as we saw with Voices, there have been interminable delays. But the book is coming along and WILL happen.

Thanks a lot Ron, just checking...

I haven't been around for a while, so I wondered if I missed any news.

Not much to tell, Doreen.

Voices on the Web was our first book, the one we did here in the forums. You already know about that one. Visions on the Web is the "sister" book to Voices, with poetry pulled from the main site and based entirely on the votes cast by visitors.

Our "cross-over" poets, who are active in both the forums and at the main site, were given the chance to participate in Visions, and several did. Kit's in the book. So is Nan, Sudhir, and a few others. Many, however, were still recovering from the stress and costs of Voices and didn't ask to be considered. That was expected and fine, because Visions was mostly for deserving poets who didn't get the opportunity for publication in our Voices project.

Like our first book, the second has been plagued by delays. Unlike our first, the biggest (and most costly) delay was my own fault. The books were printed, waiting on covers and bar codes, when I discovered that one of the poems in the book was NOT the original work of the author. I had no choice but to pull the plug, effectively starting over from scratch. Even had to change the layout slightly and, of course, shoot all new plates. It was an expensive blunder.

Yes, Visions will be available for sale, first from the authors in the books and eventually from me. Indeed, it will likely follow much the same pattern as Voices.

I have purposely NOT put any copies of Voices on sale, because I wanted the authors to have every opportunity to make some money first. Some (like Sudhir) sold all they originally ordered and then ordered still more. Most, it seems, just used their books as gifts to friends and family. No one, obviously, got rich, but it nonetheless didn't seem right for me to sell the books in competition with the authors. But I still have a closet full of boxes and you will soon see advertisements offering Voices to our millions of visitors. In a similar vein, Visions will first be sold by the authors and only much later by netpoets.com.

And who knows? Maybe if I ever get the kinks worked out of this system, it'll be time to talk about a third book?

I had no knowledge of anything called Visions on the Web until I read this topic. Perhaps I'm not what you call a "cross-over" poet uh?

Munda, the opportunity to participate in Visions was announced (and subsequently discussed at some length) in the private Voices forum we had at the time. It's a shame you missed it, because Walk With Me continues to be one of the more popular poems at the main site.

I suppose that explains it Ron, since I was one of the two poets who withdrew my poetry from the Voices on the Web project, for reasons explained to you in email back then, and therefore had no access to the private Voices forum. Well... c'est la vie!

Yes, but not definitive news. I spoke to the printer just this past Monday, as a matter of fact.

Our books are printed. But they're still waiting on the covers, before they can be bound. Apparently, the full-color press, which is the BIG one, was down a good part of the summer and they're still playing catch-up. He didn't directly say it, but I know the size of our print-run probably has us at the tail-end of their catch-up list. The good news, though, is that when they inevitably get to us everything will start happening quickly. From the time the ink hits the four-color press to the time our boxes are loaded on a UPS truck will be measured in days.

Thanks for the news, Ron...

A question: will we have the ISBN no. for this one. It becomes easier to distribute this to libraries, etc.

One of the libraries did not accept to even keep a sample *free* copy of Voices, since it did not have an ISBN no. or any other reference no. printed on it... (so they could not enter it in their catalog!)

Sudhir

Yes, our ISBN for Visions is 0-9715646-1-2

Oh, and the ISBN for Voices is 0-9715646-0-4. I am having the printer run off clear plastic labels that can be attached to the inside cover of Voices for exactly the reasons you cited. The labels will come in with our Visions order and will be available to anyone who asks.

I learn slowly, Sudhir, but I DO learn.

Ron~
I definitely want ISBN stick-on labels for the Voices books.
I will e-mail you my change of address information.

My own high school and college wouldn't take my well-intentioned donation of books because they didn't have an ISBN.

Thank you~

Liz, "Voices on the Web" - Passions first book, was completed last year.  "Visions" is nearly complete and will be sent out SOON.  We're looking at #3 for the future...

Thats cool. From what I've heard, these books seem a little on the expensive side, but I would be more than willing to help in any other way. It's really neat that you guys have been able to do this- I've been in a published book before, so I know how much time and effort it takes to make one. It took over a year to make and only had 20 poems in it, so this one must have been hard to do. Maybe when the 3rd one starts I'll have a job and be able to pay for one
I don't believe in depriving my mom of money for what I want.

Gee if I have even one poem good enough I sure would like to be in book number three, so I have them for my family, and for the hospital I volunteer at.

I would also like to buy a signed copy of the second book from someone selling them.

Ron, if it were possible to put those stickers on the last one, I would give it a go trying to sell them to our libraries here for you, if it would help get you some cupboard space?

I think there's an excellent chance, Ruth. In fact, my publishing rep almost guaranteed it.

The more nebulous question is whether they'll get to me enough before Christmas that I can get them to you before Christmas. The US Postal system is slow enough Jan through Nov, but I'm a little concerned about mailing the books in December. I've heard rumors they get pretty busy that month.

// fingers crossed \\

Always the "live" version until the printed one gets there from  , I have some printed to read out Christmas eve to my family, and am trying to memorize them to make it nicer, and still can't figure out how some can do that!

I *finally* got the ISBN stickers for Voices in yesterday's deliveries.

I'll be tracking down the postal addresses I have, and perhaps emailing those whose address is in doubt. I promise, I haven't forgotten! Stay tuned.
