Okay I admit it I must be addicted to music!  However, in Announcement and Links Ron had a very reasonable and valid reason for not allowing it, or other things, like some smilies.  He said I believe that if I typed in the url it would create a link to the site and the song and people could play it while they were reading my poem.  That is how I took what he said, and I may be wrong?  I tried everything last night to put a darn song on a poem I did about a friend of mine, everything as it was the SONG that inspired the poem!  Here is what I did...I typed...

<bgsound src="http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/7189/isabelle.mid">

Well, of course it would not play (wishful thinking I guess). Now that is what I usually do and the music just played when I had both files open.  Well, it doesn't work anymore, but I am missing something here, what do I type so that people can at least have the music playing when they read?  I have two sites I use where I have permission to link to their servers directly so that is not the problem here.  Do I then just type this?
http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/7189/isabelle.mid

If I do that, do they open that first and then go back to the poem to read?

Help, I wanna hear my tunes, and I know it's crazy but to me it does not seemed finished without the music.  Someone said your words become the music if you are a good writer, well shoot!  Guess what?  I am not that good, and need all the marketing tricks I can get LOL.

Someone, anyone, tell me how I get a link to the song to play on my poem will you pleeeessseee?

Hearthugs to you,

Sharon

Your second attempt was pretty close, Sharon.

As everyone already knows, if you type anything that starts with h t t p:// (spaces added to prevent conversion), or even w w w., the software will automatically convert it to a clickable link. And while that works with your sound files, it's not - as you've discovered - very convenient. That's because when the software converts it to a clickable link it ALSO forces it to open in a new page. Most of the time, that's what we want. Not this time, though.

So, the trick is to NOT let the software do it for you. If you enter the full href tag yourself, it will open in the same window and, since the browser recognizes it's a midi file, should automatically open the correct player for it.

You would type:

<a href="http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/7189/isabelle.mid">Play Isabelle Song</a>

And it will look (and work) like this:

Play Isabelle Song

Another Song

I would sing you a few bars but I can't sing *wink*
"Have I Told You Lately That I Love You"

Well, I am in heaven again I have to tell you.  God did say afterall, "ask and it shall be given", now why didn't I listen to him sooner?

Thank you dear Ron, you are a wonder!  I think you may read this, so Happy New Year and thanks for just being you!
