This isn't a poetry question, it's a prose question. I'm a university student, and one of my assessment pieces is to write the opening chapter of a novel. I want to write a novel about a woman who is accused of being a witch during the Salem witch trials, and escapes from the town. I've already had the suggestion of reading the play "The Crucible", and watching the movie with Wynona Ryder, but does anyone have any other movies or books they can reccommend? I'd appreciate it very much.

There are several online resources - This one is a historical anthology

BTW - A visit to Salem is a wonderful experience - There's a great museum, old graveyards, and lots of history to absorb..

Nan...
Thank you for your suggestions. Although Salem is a bit far for me to travel! I'll check that site out though. Thank you very much.

OOOOOOOOOOOOHH! i remember doing that in my last year in highschool....good play "the crucible"...it's very realistic, in terms of the mass hysteria caused by finding  witches. the love side of it may not be as relevent( which is protrayed more in the film then the book ) to your story, but its definately recommended to aid you. good luck on the story!

The day I stopped loving I died.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did read the play in high school, and I saw the movie, but I think I'll need to read/watch it again to get some notes, etc...
