If you don't have a photo of yourself to upload can you submit an artwork image or particular photo you might like instead so that it shows up under your name--ex. an image of a flower, or a Unicorn, a an eagle etc. ???

This is from the upload page:

quote:
The philosophy behind the Member Photos is simple. When you talk to someone in Real Life, you generally like to look them in the face. We can't do that at the forums (yet), so the photos are the next best thing. Your photo allows your Passionate friends to see you as they read your words.

If you understand that, then you'll immediately understand what is acceptable. Please don't upload cute graphics or pictures of your cat. The photo size obviously isn't very big, so group shots of your boy scout troop won't work well. You face is the only anatomy of interest.

Two additional points.

One, when you talk to someone in real life, you generally don't stare at a painting on the wall of their home, even if it might otherwise reflect their personality. Same here. I'm willing to wait a few extra seconds for a page to download in order to see you, but not to look at a cute graphic. Especially if you multiply that few seconds by the number of posts we see daily.

Two, if art were allowed, the next step would be pictures of their favorite movie stars. And then everyone would think I looked like Meg Ryan. Which, I guess, might actually be an improvement.

But this "cyber" still, an anonymous medium for so many. I wouldn't want to see images of Movie stars nor other famous people, as its unacceptable to use a different persons picture ever. But couldn't it be limited to nature images. And generic things that might be relevant to ones poetic aura/persona or handle in the forum--part of the association: For ex. if I'm "SilverUnicorn" I could submit a unicorn picture?
I was going to upload a nice picture of a rainbow at 50 posts, if it were allowed
