Darling Mother, Dearest Dad

My parents both had poet souls,
A fact they didn't know.
But they each lived by the poet's rule,
You do not tell, you show.

They lived each day by the golden rule,
With kindness and with joy.
To have them for our parents,
Made us a lucky girl or boy.

They worked so hard for us each day,
And took us to church on Sunday.
The goodness they discovered there,
Was not forgotten Monday.

They did not believe in punishment,
Except to let us see,
How sad it made them if we weren't
As good as we could be.

So to Mom and Dad in Heaven,
I'm thanking you today,
For being perfect parents
In every sort of way.

I was so very favored to
Have you as Mom and Dad;
The two very finest parents
Any girl ever had.

Always There...A Sonnet

Through all the many memories,
childhood hurts and scrapes and fears,
always there to aid and kiss
away the bad in all those years.

Sometimes the thanks are never said
but words can only say the "feel".
I take this moment to let you know
my love for you, of heart, is real.

I weave in rhyme, respect and love.
I treasure both and know that you
have sheltered me from many storms.
It's time I give the thanks that's due.

You've more than raised, you've blended me
into the being that you now see.

I know this is more generic..
I wasn't sure if you were talking older
parents/younger children or adult ones.........
