Please Help Me My Poet Friends! Zip Files!

I got sent an e-mail with a zip file. Word Pad read it but it just came up boxes and nonsense. I can't figure out how to get it to read it right. I'm new to html and coding. And So all this is soo confusing. It'll probably be something simple, but I need some answers before I go insane! lol.
If anyone can help I'd appreciate it a lot!!!

A Zip file, Joy, is just a way of compressing files (usually multiple ones) so they take less time to send. You need a special program both to zip the files before sending them and to unzip them once you receive them. Unzipping will restore the files to their original size and their original file extension, so they can be used with whatever program created them.
