hullo...
i hope some one here can help me. i'm looking for a paticular poem. in the flim, "four weddings and a funeral", at the funeral, it's read out. it's a very famous piece, but i can't for the life of me rember who it's by, or it's title.

here's a couple of paraphrased lines from it:

turn off the sun
stop all the clocks
make the policemen put on black gloves.

basically, the poet is mourning someone.

any help would be greatly appreciated. i have been asked to give the eulogy at my brothers funeral, and the memory i hold of this poem matches exactly how we're all feeling at the moment (he was only ten).

if any one out there has lost someone, they will understand the importance of my request.
if you can help me, my e mail is

emmapearmain@thespark.com

thank you in advance for any help you can give me at this black time.

emma

Emma,

I am so terribly sorry for your tragedy...here is the poem...I will email it to you as well.

Funeral Blues by W.H. Auden

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead.
Put Crepe bows round the white necks of public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West.
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever; I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now:  put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.
