My best friend's mom just passed away, and her funeral is coming up shortly. I'm looking for a nice, suitable poem to read at the ceremony. I would write it myself, but I'm an amature, and not very good at it. Please help! Thanks.

You may use this if you think it is suitable, Melissa. Please extend my sympathies to your friend and her family.

Safely Home
Denise Corbley Snyder

Speak of me when I am gone
When I no longer greet the dawn
And bid no more the night farewell
Speak of me, remember well
All the times we shared together
And cherish them, please, forever.

Grieve not long when I depart
For I値l be still within your heart
I値l still live in each memory
You値l have still each thought of me
Take comfort that I知 home at last
The victory won, my labors past.

I shall be in God痴 embrace
I shall see His radiant face
And I値l ask He comfort you
Bless your days your whole life through
Dry your tears and your fears erase
Fill you full of His loving grace

And bring you safely home to me
Where we値l dwell with Him eternally.

A gentle wind blew cross the land
Reaching out to take a hand
For on the winds the angels came
                Calling out a mother's name.

                Left behind, the children's tears
                Loving memories of the years
Of joy and love, a life well spent
And now to God, a mother's sent.

With saddened heart, a child's farewell
Regrets of love, forgot to tell
                Mother's whispers from above
"Twas not words, that showed your love."

As flesh departs, deep sorrow's pain
But mother's love shall e'er remain
Inside each child a mother lives
For of herself, a mother gives.

On angel's wings, a heavenly flight
The journey home, towards the light
To those who weep, a life is gone
But in God's love, 'tis but the dawn.

I read this at my grandmothers funeral years ago.

God looked around His garden
And He found an empty place.
He then looked down upon this earth,
And He saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering,
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb
So He closed your weary eyelids,
And whispered "Peace be thine."
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you didn't go alone.
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you,
You are always by our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.

This poem has always been a favorite of mine ...

Do not stand there at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am the thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn's rain
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night
Do not stand there at my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die
-Gwydion
