Floating gently on a cloud....

Passions people: 2 things...

1) What is a muse?

2) I'd like for as many people as possible to tell me their definition of poetry....what they feel poetry is.

Hoping for some responses!!!

Love and hugs to all,
Lizzie

Hmmm  I know  the definitions will vary  a great deal on this  question kind of interested to see how everytone else will define it  here are mine...

Muse- the inside voice that  inspires me to  capture moments and thoughts and to write about them

Poetry- Life in words ... a little poem I wrote about my goal in writing poetry

I want to be
the greatest writer
to have words
fly from my pen
like lightning
to be able to express
all the feelings and
emotions of everyday life
in the beauty
and mysticism
of a poem
I want to be the words
flowing from your mouth
to feel your feelings
to live your life
to be you in words

...and I guess that is my definition  look forward to reading other's definitions

 Mystical being
which makes ink flow
Surround me in
your incandescent glow
Fill my brain with
thoughts and rhyme
As I try to capture
but a moment in time

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. . . what's a muse?

Well, for me a muse is that one person or feeling or whatever that inspires you to write. . . some people have many muses. . . some people only have one or two. . . a muse can be anyone or anything. . . it's up to you, but I don't feel that you can be your own muse. . . well, maybe you could, but it's much more fun to write about other things than yourself!!

I agree with Shan when she says that poetry is "life in words". . . one could also say that poetry is "words of life" or the "life of words".

For me, poetry is a way of expressing myself to others.  . helping them to see what's inside of me. . . the "real" me. . .

Waiting to see more responses!!!

A muse is a cute little alien-type guy that lives inside your ears.. He's shy though - never comes outside. He just sees all and reminds you of all kinds of stuff that you need to say to the world...

Poetry is...

To me poetry is above and  beyond all else
a communication of emotion. I don`t even
have to understand what I`m reading if
it elicits emotion. Sometimes I feel
it`s the ability to say the unsayable.
The lanquage of the heart of the soul.
Touching the untouchable.
Good grief I`m rambling, sorry.

forrest

To me, poetry is an expressive way of saying how you feel.  I think poetry helps me to say what I have to, and what I want to, with a smooth and flowing style.

do you ever read something and it seems to dance in your head? that's poetry for me. or you feel that a certain sentence holds time, doesn't matter how long, 3 seconds, a week. thats poetry for me. i also think that to be a poem, it has to have rhythm and it has to have rhyme. i have been to time and again that simplistic - but it is the way i feel. no doubt as i get older...

To me poetry is the vehicle that our minds use to communicate our inner most feelings.

I lie awake in a world filled with dreams,
but dreams can be so real when you don't know you're asleep

A muse is someone or something that inspires you to write.  We write because we love it, but it is nice to sometimes write for your muse.  My muse inspires me in many ways, as a person, a poet, a friend, a man etc.  We are friends and will never be more, we are both content with that.  Still it is nice to know he is out there, and he reads my work, and always responds.
My muse knows me, cares for me as a good friend does, and together we we write inspirational poetry.  Others always love it when we write this way.  Even if we lose each other in years to come, I feel he will have left his mark on me, and I am better for having known him.
Poetry to me, is words from the heart and soul, that rhyme and have beautiful messages like songs.  really songs without music. I'm sharing innermost thoughts and feelings in a beautiful and hopefully inspiring way.

They are my opinions for what they are worth.
