With over 1,800 members here there's a lot of diversity, and some of that diversity has to be in music.

I myself am an avid fan of rock, mostly hardcore metal, thrash and industrial. (Anybody else think that there is a ludicrous amount of music genres?)  Nothing's more satisfying to me than the roaring guitar riffs and wailing guitar solos.  To some it sounds just like noise, but I like it, just takes a while before you can sort out the different instruments.

Anyways, my question is what kind of music do you the people of Passions like?  And why that type?  Oh, and maybe a favorite band/artist/composer/et cetera too?

i'm basically a ska-punk kinda boy-o, but i also like alternative, industrial, 80s, 60s & 70s rock, jazz, and They Might Be Giants (cause they're in a class by themselves)... i listen to music for the message primarily and for the tunes secondarily... i consider a great band (ex. TMBG, The Cars, Pink Floyd, The Israelites, Dropkick Murphys, The Smashing Pumpkins) one which combines insightful and innovative lyrics with catchy tunes and memorable melodies...

sincerely,

Well, Abe, you know me...I'm a country gal.  Reba, Faith Hill, Garth...but to broaden it up, I like anything with a lot of emotion, with a lot of beauty (I'm a sucker for ballads).  I love the kind of music where you can just get lost in the story or the emotion of it.

Thank you both for replying

poetry_kills - Insightful lyrics are always a defininte plus, but I can be a sucker for a good tune.  Btw, Pink Floyd is my all time favorite band.

Alwye - LOL, I thought I'd see ya her country gal   I like Garth Brooks, too.  But you said beauty, and thats purely objective, I hear beauty in the words and music of Metallica, why'd you hear noise and screaming.

Thanks again for replying!

Interesting question!

Um - lots actually.
Primarily modern rock and alternative (LOVE Bjork. LOVE Massive attack)
But then I adore Classical, jazz, lounge, Metallica on occasion...

I'm hard to pin down for an exact taste!

Is there an "everything" button here?

I like everything from new age to metal, country to classical.  The music just has to suit my mood.  The only music I can think of that I've never particularly enjoyed is the "hip-hop" stuff, which for some reason all sounds the same to me.

LOL (bracing myself for the onslught of disapproval from hip-hop fans)

Thanks all for replying!  A whole slew of those with diverse tastes!  It's always good to have an open mind, I don't dislike any music except for rap, but I tolerate it (I cna hear it right now blasting from my bro's room).

Thanks again for your comments

Interesting question. I enjoy many different types of music but pop is generally on in my house. My children like to listen to a radio station that plays the most popular music out there now. I enjoy country, pop, rock...metal is a bit harsh for my tastes but I do enjoy some of it. Classic guitar soothes my soul and it is very romantic.

I love to dance so dance music I like. Of course classic rock I really enjoy (you know the stuff I grew up with that they now call classic...lol...feeling old) The only kind of music I can saw I dislike is rap and elevator music (the kind they play when your on hold...lol). I hope that answers your question Sir Treader.

Marilyn - I grew up to the same classic rock (I've listened to it since I was about 6.. going off to a heavier rock though..) and I must say, Pink Floyd is the band, And Led Zeppelin rocks, hehe, thanks for expressing your opinion! It does indeed answer my question

P.S. That elevator music can be kind of catchy though.. dee doo dum da da..
