At the risk of exposing my ignorance...how does one determine which format is best suited for a particular piece of poetry? Is there a link or website where I could view this information?

Julie, I think choosing a format for a poem is mostly based on individual taste. I don't know of any place that can advise you on that. There is a place, however, which has a wealth of poetic terms, definitions and explanations of all the different formats used. Check it out and it may give you some ideas or guidelines to follow.

hope it helps.

Thanks Balladeer, saved it in my favorites. So there is not a "rule", maybe just common sense should lead the way?
