MY HEART IS LIKE A CHILD

I am very much a parent,
and my heart is like a child.
I carefully watch and protect my heart
from the beasts that lurk in the wild.

My heart is young and innocent,
it longs to have it's day.
It begs of me, "Oh Mother please,
I want to go out and play."

"Oh, no my child, do not go out,
stay safe with me at home."
"There are beasts out there in that lonely world,
in the darkness they quietly roam."

"They look for tender hearts to steal,
   and capture as their own."
"They'll carry you off far away,
   and leave me here alone."

"Oh Mother, please!" my heart declared
   "I will not wander away."
"I'll stay within your loving sight;
with no stranger will I stray."

So I said to my heart, "Ok, go play,
but be careful to stay near."
"And be choosy with whom you chance to play,
they may cause you harm, I fear."

So my heart stepped outside to play,
   and quickly found a friend.
I told my heart, "Be careful dear,
he may hurt you in the end."

"Move slowly, step carefully,
   watch his every move."
"I don't want to see you hurt;
   be careful I behoove."

"Oh, Mother dear, don't worry so,
there's nothing for you to fear."
"He's not the type to steal me away,
   I'll always be right here."

I closed my eyes and trusted my heart
to do exactly as I had said,
But when I open my eyes again,
I found exactly what I had dread.

This innocent little heart of mine
   had been carried far away,
By the cunning man who was her friend,
and had come to her this day.

I found the man and pleaded with him,
"Oh Sir, where is my heart?"
"If you steal her away from me,
   what harm will you impart?"

"Dear Lady," said the gentlman
   with kindness in his voice,
"I did not mean to steal your heart,
but I really had no choice."

"Your heart is fair and delecate,
   and of loneliness she pleads."
"She pleaded with me to take her away,
   for another heart she needs."

"I promise I'll be gentle with her,
   and treat her tenderly."
"I will love her and take care of her
   for all eternity."

"But Sir, what shall I ever do
   without my precious heart?"
"I do not wish to live alone;
how can I let her part?"

"My Lady, you do not understand,
   I think you are mistaken."
"I did not take your heart for me;
it was for my heart she was taken."

"My heart is lonely, as am I,
   for we are both alone."
"And if I did not take your heart,
my heart would turn to stone."

"But I too am in need of love, my dear,
   so if you would agree;"
"I'd take you along with your heart,
and happiness would come to me."

So, I took the hand of this gentleman,
who had stolen away my heart.
He kept his word he gave to me,
   no lies did he impart.

He took both me and my heart
   in to his gentle care.
Both he and his heart were kind to us,
   we both found happiness there.

He brought us joy and happiness,
and filled our lives with laughter.
I'm glad I let my heart go play,
for we both lived happily ever after.

Congratulations on your wedding and in terms of that, this is a cute little ditty.

'nuff said,
Brad

PS Ah, damn, no it's not. There are too many hearts here.
