I am a captive
in my room;
But, behind the door,
I can escape.
        There is a whole world there
        a world where I am free
        to explore many wonders;
        free to inhale the clean, fresh air
        of the outdoors;
        free to touch and feel
        the bark of the dogwood;
        to open my eyes
        to see and hear
        the mighty waterfall
        crashing down the cliff;
        behind the door;
        free to taste the rain
        to escape the tight spaces
        the confinement
        of the walls of my room
        of the walls of my mind.
Here, I can do anything
     be anything.
And, here, life is perfect.
I hear nothing of murders, of wars, of rape...

And if I could have two wishes
they would be
that I could spend my life here,
and that someone, somewhere
cared for me enough
to come with me.
