I wish my heart didn’t leap every time I hear your name.
I only wish that I could sleep, could live without the shame
Of knowing that I’ve fallen for you
Of knowing that you’ve won
To be rid the cruel temptation to call you on the phone
So I could hear your voice, just once, directed just at me
And be torn up by the choice of finally letting you see
That I think of you all through the night
Dream of you through my day,
Praying that one word, one glance,
Might miraculously come my way.
Oh haunting eyes be gone from my mind
I know it cannot be.
Your name across my heart I signed
Yet I know it cannot be.
Forget this man, quick beating heart,
You know it cannot be.
It tears my very soul apart
To know it cannot be.

to want someone and know it is an impossible dream is hard enough...to be able to write abt it is wonderful....

Oh haunting eyes be gone from my mind...my favorite line.  Ain't this a witch?  You bring across the tension in this piece well.

Hi Doogle

I liked your poem, it can be so hard loving somebody and you know they don't share your feelings.

I'm having a problem with 3 lines

"I only wish that I could sleep, could live without the shame
Of knowing that I’ve fallen for you
Of knowing that you’ve won"

Keep in mind I'm a just novice so I don't much    where does the shame come from, there's no shame for loving somebody.

What did this other person win?

Thank you for your comments mysticharm.

To answer your questions, the shame is in loving someone so obsessively as in this poem, especially when its a very bad person to fall for, someone society says is "out-of-bounds".

I guess there was a fight to not fall for him which he won, and also the sense that he was someone people were bound to fall for and this person didn't want to be like the others and succumb!
